Windmills have graced Bruges' ramparts ever since the construction of the outer city wall at the end of the 13th century. Today four specimens are left on Kruisvest. Sint-Janshuis Mill - anno 1770- is still in its original spot and still grinding grain just like its neighbour Koelewei Mill. The Sint-Janshuismolen is the only mill you can visit. OPEN: 01/04-30/09

Well worth going to the edge of the city to take a look at. Interesting designs. Nothing more to say.

By leaving the station and following the footpath through the park you start the circular canal side walk which will bring you past the 4 windmills. At the last one you can continue to the left and head back towards the old town and the attractions giving you an appetite for some beer and fries! The walk is good, the... More

The mills themselves aren't that interesting, but the path from one to another and the stunning views from the small mounds where they are worth the trip. Tip: go there near the sunset, you will get beautiful pics.

Fab, fab & more fab - love these mills. Such a beautiful walk along the length of Bruges' eastern side, and a welcome relief from the crowds, hordes and seething masses of people swarming (and enjoying!) the town centre... a small walk provides a huge amount of enjoyment & lovely views :-)

These two mills (out of the four) that surround Bruges are quite unique. They add to the charm of the city and the countryside alike. Must visit for all.

We walked the perimeter of the old city and came across the windmills; all very photogenic and not something you see very often in the UK. Definitely worth a visit.

This is my first windmill to discover. It's a very interesting experience to see how it works from inside to grind all the wheat and grains. The ladder is kinda dangerous to reach up, they need to do something about it. However overall, it worths paying a visit to check it out.

We enjoyed visiting these two windmills - interesting history behind them as well. You can go up in the one and see how it works. Nice walk to them too from the center of Bruges. Great on a sunny day, and in the beautiful grassy setting, a great place to relax and have a picnic!

Attraction: 30-40 minute walk from the Burg Square. Throughout the relaxing walk, you will be strolling thru old streets of what is recognized as a World Heritage Site of UNESCO! Your destination is four beautifully maintained windmills by the canal with large patches of grass for picnics or for you to roll on! Key Takeaway: If you don't mind the... More

I wasn't aware they had windmills in Bruges, but should have guessed from all the flat open countryside around. Well preserved, worth the walk from the town centre to find them.
