The Diamond museum sheds a fascinating light on Bruges' gem connection....

The Diamond museum sheds a fascinating light on Bruges' gem connection. Diamonds were traded and polished here as far back as the 14th century. The museum shows how medieval Bruges was the first diamond city in the world, and why the industry later moved to Antwerp. The museum features permanent and temporary exhibitions, a shop dedicated to all things diamond-related, and offers its unique Diamond Polishing Show every day.

We visited the museum mainly because I wanted to see some diamonds! We found it to be quite expensive for entry and to see diamond cutting was even more. We found the museum on the whole a bit confusing with its layout and were quite bored. There was only one area that really held any interest and that was the... More

The diamond museum covers many aspects of the diamond business, with sections about the winning of raw diamond in various places, about the processing to jewels, about the history in Bruges, Antwerp, Amsterdam, with various special diamonds on display. A funny special item is a Ukrainian diamond processing robot. There are a few explanations in videos, but most information is... More

The displays are limited and boring. Very little to see. The one highlight was the box of fake diamonds to represent all the diamonds mined per year. Just very little to see. We spent 10 euro each to enter (including the polishing show) but we struggled to make it last more than 10 min. Unfortunately not for us and we... More

I visited the museum last week and it was such a nice experience. As visitor, I liked the interaction with the artifacts: it is possible to touch some of the artifacts. E.g. there are microscopes wherethrough visitors can verify the structures of real and fake diamonds. This is an excellent museum to visit with children. At the same time, this... More

The museum is not just about the gems. it explains Diamonds in Bruges history, both culturally and commerce. It has loads of fascinating artefacts about the mining grading, testing, cutting and polishing of diamonds. There are some hands on elements and a modern jewellery exhibition, but the best part is the multi lingual demonstration of diamond polishing. Very engaging and... More

We came here in the afternoon in expectation of the polishing demonstration. After we paid we've been told that it will only take place during on weekends and bank holidays. Already disappointed we still visited the museum. It it was definitely not worth the money. The fee of €8 per person is too high for what you get to see.... More

Not the biggest museum but quite interesting in parts. The polishing display was good and impressively delivered in 4 languages. Probably not one for the kids.

We took our children as part of our visit to Brugge! Well what a disappointment, really nothing of any interest. You could really put into Google and read up on diamonds instead of wasting your time and money around here!

Thought this was going to be a commercialised & dull experience but was completely surprised by how interesting this was. The demo was a real highlight as it was really thought through & gave a real insight. Glad we went.
