These renovated 17th century, singleroom dwellings accommodate, amongst other things, a classroom, a millinery, a pharmacy, a confectionery shop, a grocery shop and an authentic bedroom interior. You can also admire a beautiful lace collection on the upper floor. Every first and third Thursday of the month (except for public holidays), those with a sweet tooth can attend a demonstration given by the 'spekkenbakker' (sweetmaker). You can relax in the museum inn, 'De Zwarte Kat' (The Black Cat) or in the garden, where you can try out traditional folk games on the terrace.

Located some distance from the historic centre, this is worth the effort if you tag it with a canal walk and the wind mills. Not open on Monday. Lots of things to see on the lives of ordinary locals. Quite entertaining.

Lovely little place stepping back in time with super exhibits, a beautiful garden to sit in with a beer and games to play too - what's not to like!

While not a huge place or an amazing collection, this is a nicely laid out little museum, giving you a view of life in the area through the years. And to top it off, there is a great little cafe attached to the museum that...More

In a town awash with tourist-targeted museums with underwhelming exhibits all at inflated entry fees, this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. It tells the story of Bruges through the ages in more than 20 fascinatingly-laid out rooms in a series of 17th...More

It's a little walk from the centre, but worth it. It was very interesting and not that expensive. You can also get a drink here as they have a little pub.

We have visited Bruges about 9 times and only recently discovered this museum. It is located away from the main squares and attractions and is maybe a 20 minute walk out through the more residential streets of Bruges. The museum is very reasonably priced -...More

Get the museum card which covers this and many other attractions. I thought this was the best museum in Brugge. It told the story of the ordinary people living there. Very close to the windmills so can make a joined trip. Definitely recommended.

This is a really lovely museum. The space is so well used, the exhibits varied and fascinating and the staff so friendly. Plus, the coffee is excellent. The only thing that was a bit disconcerting was that as a couple in our 70s, so many...More
