This was my second visit to the Groeninge and it was even more enjoyable than the first. Art is, of course, possibly more subjective than music but for anyone with the slightest interest in the development of oil painting the Van Eyck alone is worth...More

There were some good Flemish/Belgian pictures in here: Jan Van Eyck, Gerard David, H Bosch and many others - check out Wiki if you want a fuller list. The big problem was that the label by each painting had name of painting, name of painter...More

A must see if you visit Bruges. Several centuries of art ranging from Van Eyck to Expressionism. Well laid out with plenty of places to stop, sit and take in some amazing works of art.

Well laid out for walking and viewing. Several benches for sitting and enjoying the paintings . We were there to see a few specific paintings and were not disappointed. Very nice garden setting also.

A proper gem of a gallery this one. Essentially dedicated to Bruges/Flemish artists, this takes you through a 700-ish year old tour of art from the area - from Hieronymous Bosch through to the 20th Century. It's all very carefully laid out in chronological order...More

Located a couple of minutes from the main square. We really enjoyed wandering around looking at the paintings. As you go through the rooms; you go through time. It was not busy on a Friday morning so able to look in detail at the artwork....More

Our tour guide couldn’t say enough about the beer and chocolates in Bruge. We ignored him and headed for two outstanding museums - the Groeningemuseum and the Hospital of St. John. Both contain some of the best paintings by the Northern European Renaissance artists -...More

A well-thought-out, well designed art museum. Just the right size. Wonderful Flemish masters, information available in English. Audio guide would have been helpful.

If you like fine arts, this is the place to be. A real gem on a rainy morning in Bruges. There is a very good bookshop in the corner. Order a local guide for a tour in the musea.

I believe you are referring to The Madonna with Canon van der Paele by Jan Van Eyck. Although it's the madonna seated on the throne, not a man.
