Start your visit to Bruges in the Historium: a wonderful historical-experience attraction that takes you back in time to the Golden Age of Bruges. Cinematic sets, with music and special effects, propel you into a love story, based on Jan Van Eyck’s painting ‘Virgin and Child with Canon van der Paele'. For anyone who wants a taste of virtual reality: the VR Experience takes you on a virtual tour of medieval Bruges. You travel back in time and get to explore the historical city interactively. The Historium is housed in a historical building on the market square, where the Waterhalle once stood. The Waterhalle was the central shipping entrepot of the thriving mercantile centre Bruges. Bruges was renowned for its luxury textiles and clothing. But the art of Bruges was also highly prized: precious metals, manuscripts, miniatures and of course, the painted panels of Flemish Primitives, such as Hans Memling and Jan van Eyck. In the attraction and the VR Experience, the Waterhalle is superbly reconstructed. You can follow the story in your own language on an audio guide (10 languages). After your visit, you can enjoy a nice Belgian beer or other refreshments in the Duvelorium Grand Beer Cafe... with a panoramic view on the market square. Historium Brugge is open daily from 10h00 a.m. – 6h00 p.m. (tickets until 5h00 p.m.). Accessible for all ages – Family Trail included. Audio guides in 10 different languages.

The way it is made, by following a storyline with audio guides is interesting. The story however, was a fairly ridiculous love story. There is plenty to do for children and adults get their fair insight in the medieval life of Brugge. So all in...More

Pointless video love story that gave you little or no historical perspective of Bruges. Virtual reality thing that was slightly more interesting though difficult to be less interesting! Only redeeming feature was beer overlooking the market square though for the cost of this tourist trap...More

Happened into the Historium a couple of years ago because it was cold and rainy out and it looked warm and inviting. This place is wonderful. 3D trip through the history of Bruges in the beginning followed by a great stop in the Duvel pub...More

We had fun visiting The Historium, the walk through story was very nice and the virtual reality experience was also fun to experience. I'd certainly it's something to enjoy while in Brugge.

The idea is to use video, sights, sounds, smells and even VR to portray Brugge around 1550 when it was the trading center and biggest city in Northern Europe. Pretty well done, especially for the younger folks.

Excellent service from the employees. The themed rooms were fantastic and indeed you get a picture for the history of Brugge. Also had the visual reality story which was great! Don't miss the view from the beer bar upstairs!!
