Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Originial concrete bunker, British Army made late 1916 and served 1917 & 1918. Impacts of German artillery fragmentation still visible. In this area Canadian Medical Dr Major John Mc Crae wrote in 1915 the famous " In Flanders Fields " poem. The bunker has been build later and has no relation with the 1915poem. At that time, British positions were very basic, rather fox holes and trenches in the spoilbank. Spoilbank is still visible and in the area one can see shell holes from impacts of the WW1 shelling. A highly recommended place to visit as there is the bunker, the In Flanders Fields Major Mc Crae commemoration plaque and Essex Farm Cemetery. Every person visiting the Ypres Salient WW1 battlefield should visit this site. It is a must see.

It was hard to believe this site was used as a wound dressing site. I cannot imagine working in the conditions they did, inside of concrete bunkers like they did.
Our tour guide recited the In Flanders Fields prom to bring the day to a poignant end.

If you grew up in Canada or the UK, you know his poem, this place is where Dr. McRae tended to the wounded, there is a small cemetery there as well. I would not have missed this.

Came here as part of a battlefields tour, (as most do) I cannot say anymore than what others have said really. But other than there is the headstone of a 15yr old lad there, who according to our guide was shot on the front line and his elder brother dis-obeyed orders and went and returned to the trenches with his brother. He was then brought here to be treated, but sadly did not make it. His brother was "shot at dawn " as a traitor for dis-obeying orders. and therefore was not entitled to a grave at all. fortunately since the government has granted them a pardon. There is now a memorial to them at the National memorial arboretum is Staffordshire England.

Saw this on the Flanders Battlefield Tour. It's quite interesting, and you will lean a lot if you visit here with the tour.

Having visited the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery the day before, our group of two Canadian couples, members of whom lost family members in both World Wars, decided to visit Flanders Fields at Essex Farms, near Ypres, Belgium.
We arrived at the John McCrae site early on a Sunday morning before any one else. It was a very quite, well maintained cemetery, associated monuments and remnants of the war.
The numerous displays describing the site, etc. including the medical facility bunker where the wounded were treated proved to be very interesting as was the bronze plaque which contained the poem - On Flanders Fields written by John McCrae.
A “ must visit” for anyone touring Belgium or France.

Very poigniant to stand reading Johm McCrae's famous poem "On Flanders Fields" close to where he himself was buried and to hear of the good work he did in treating the wounded soldiers

McCrae is the author of 'In Flanders Fields'. This site highlights the appalling conditions that he worked in as a doctor, during the battles, which were not far from the canal.

Hard to believe that John McCrae wrote in Flanders Fields there. When you look out onto the fields and see all the poppy's then you realize this is the spot.
