My wife and I originally contracted Iain in 2009. We engaged his services again in 2014 because of our satisfaction of the previous experience. During that tour (2009) Iain was able to locate the battlefield and probable trench line where my great uncle was killed in 1915. This year we toured for two days in the Somme and Ypres area. We were again impressed with his subject knowledge and the ability to make this time in history come alive with individual soldier stories and his personal experience in the historical excavation of the battlefields.

Contacted Iain McHenry, the owner of Trench Map Tours, around six months prior to our visit to Ypres as I wanted to have someone of experience show me and explain to me a little more than the average tour bus of the area. Iain thoroughly researched my Great Uncle' World War I history and took my partner and I to a number of places in and around Ypres which related to his own personal journey. We visited his final resting place in Perth Cemetery as well as a number of other sites of interest including Hill 60, the Hooge Crater Museum, Passchendaele and Tyne Cot Cemetery. What makes Iain a great guide is his own personal military experience and a lifetime of research on World War I - he answered all our questions and such and left us with an overwhelming sense for the people and places in a conflict that so dominated the world from 1914 to 1918. I would without hesitation suggest to anybody thinking of a trip to Ypres to make time to get Iain on board for at least a day and have him show and explain to you the real history and soul of the one of the most interesting places in the world. I look forward to utilising Trench Map Tours for a few days on my next visit - First Class.
