My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable and very insightful visit to Flanders. In no small measure, it was Patrick's skilled preparation, carefully choosing sites with accompanying maps and historic photographs, along with his ability to effortlessly provide concise explanations, made the tour so worthwhile. We came with just a basic general knowledge of the history of Flanders Fields, his choice of itinerary and insights were terrific to really understand and relate to the monumental events of WWI. The 3+ hours flew by all too fast.
I have to say Patrick's combination of understanding and empathy for the events of the period and his ability to relate the narrative in an engaging and friendly way makes him a truly exceptional guide. We will definitely return to build on the knowledge and the curiosity he unexpectedly planted in us!
Patrick's follow-up links provided enjoyable 'homework' which added to the overall experience being a superb encounter with history brought to life.
Totally recommend this tour to all.

Patrick was amazing, on time and kept the tour on schedule so that we would see the most for our full day tour, our group of six were interested in the Canadian history, which he was full of knowledge, very educational. He provided a comfortable vehicle and water along the travel as it was a very hot day. He took us to a family restaurant with good food and the owner was devoted to capturing the history with a museum above the restaurant. All six of us would highly recommend this tour.

I booked a private half-day tour with Patrick of the Ypres Salient that I would highly recommend. He gave me detailed information on how to Ypres from Brussels and made the fantastic recommendation to arrive early and explore the In Flanders Field Museum. Patrick was not only deeply knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the region but also sought to better illustrate the history through photos and maps. I also appreciated that he allowed time for photos and quiet reflection at each of the sights. Many thanks to Patrick for a truly unique, memorable, and meaningful experience!

A friend booked this trip and I have to admit I didn't know very much about WW1. Our guide Patrick was a font of information. I had watched a few tv series on WW1 to bone up on the subject but actually being there with a competent guide is the only way to truly understand what happened in Flanders Fields. If only history was taught this way in schools.

Patrick set a good pace, it was never dull and he wove a coherent story. He brought us to a private museum and a great local restaurant for lunch (order the Flemish Stew cooked in beer - yumm).

One of the most memorable days out I have ever had. I cannot recommend Patrick highly enough.

This was a "bucket-list" trip for my father and I; we have been talking about visiting the WW1 Battlefields for many years. Patrick was unbelievably well prepared and had such a depth of knowledge about the area and what had happened there. He was not grim or gruesome, but factual and thorough. As Canadians, he made sure we saw the specific sites that he felt would interest us, and absolutely nailed it. Also, Patrick picked us up directly from our hotel, perfectly on time... He was clear, friendly, and passionate about the subject matter. He's the kind of guy you would go out of your way to have a beer with.
Thanks, Patrick - great experience

My daughter and I came on a battlefield tour with Patrick on 1st June 2022 during our visit to Ypres to visit the grave of a relative who had been killed in the First World War.
The initial communication with Patrick was excellent and booking him was simple and hassle free which is always a good start. When we met Patrick at the exact time he promised to pick us up, he was able to provide extra research around my relative which was gratefully received. It was a really lovely touch to be able to have this extra information.
Throughout the tour Patrick was knowledgeable, engaging and was able to relate to both myself and my 14 year old daughter whilst still providing a real human element to what had occurred on the battlefields.
As first time visitors the tour covered a number of key sites and gave us both a better understanding of what happened and the role of our relative.
I would highly recommend Patrick to anyone looking for a battlefield tour.

We were 3 couples travelling from Canada to Belgium and knew we had to take in a tour of the Ypres - Salient region to learn more about WW1 from a Canadian perspective. I can't believe how lucky we were to find Patrick and 2Xplore Flanders Fields tours. He was an amazing tour guide - so passionate and knowledgeable of the place where he grew up and the history that happened here. He took us to places we never would have found on our own as well as the sights that everyone sees. With the help of pictures and stories, Patrick painted a true picture of what it was like during the war and the atrocities that happened here. You will not regret booking your tour with Patrick - you won't find anyone better to make history come alive. Thank you very much Patrick for an excellent learning experience and sharing your passion.

I found this experience to be second to none, Patrick laid on a fantastic private tour that not only brought us to places we requested, but also to some “less visited” site which were just, if not more interesting, than the other major sites.
His knowledge was superb and was well able to answer any questions we had and was very attentive to our asks and needs!!!!. Just a few highlights were Polygon Woods/Anzac Rest, Hill 60, The Island of Ireland Peace Park and Essex Farm Cemetery just to name a few.
I cannot recommend Patrick highly enough as his attention to detail, local knowledge and just being a top bloke really made this trip worthwhile, also I would like to commend his patience for putting up with the “very amateur and self-proclaimed history expert” in the group……..I need to read more before I say anything!!!!!

Patrick has a great knowledge and passion for helping visitors make sense of the events and the landscape of Flanders Fields, and the experience of those who fought there. Driving around the tranquil fields surrounding Ypres, it is diificult to imagine the massacre that this small area was home to 110 years ago, but Patrick has an impressive collection of photographs that provide a glimpse into what was accuring in those locations he stops at on his tour. PPatrick was also very flexible and helpful in accommodating our travel plans by adjusting his schedule to suit our needs. Highly recommended.

Patrick is a most experienced tour guide with a great deal of knowledge of all battlefield sites. He took us to places we would never have found on our own. His explanations really helped us to understand more clearly what it was like during that time. He gave us a personal tour catered to one specific relative and really helped us to understand what it was like to endure that terrible time. We would recommend Patrick as an exceptional tour guide and will definitely book another tour with him when next in the area.

Thank you Linda for your nice review. It was my pleasure guiding you and Peter around, retracing the footsteps of one of your relatives who sacrificed his life for us over here. Lest we forget ! I wish you all the best, Patrick
