Nice castle and the cathedral too

This ancient castle still looks fantastic. The next door cathedral is also nice. The town itself is as well good for walking around. Like it.

2500 year old castle and the remains of the original city walls. Incredibly well kept. We inspected the outside, as it was closed for lunch when we returned from a walk in town.

We visited on a Sunday morning and it was free but I am not sure if this is the case during the week. The signage is very good in Portuguese and English explaining the various parts and history of the castle. I didn't go to the top of the keep and the spiral staircase was 2 way and it was... More

The castle remains give a hint as to how big the castle used to be, but the star of the show is the keep. It is the tallest on the Iberian peninsular, at 40m tall, and the view from the top shows why it was built there. Parking outside the castle is free and it is an interesting easy walk... More

Could not see the castle and amazing views promised as it is closed for renovation. However, the lady in the information office within the castle walls was very helpful providing a useful map of Beja, and recommendations on other places which are worth a visit!

We walked all over the narrow cobblestone streets of Beja. It's a lovely city that is a central point, kind of a crossroads in Portugal. It's not the most scenic city but we had an adequate room at the Dona Marie Hotel where the staff is so nice. We bought fruit in the marketplace and the peaches and oranges were... More

The castle looks nice but since it is under reconstruction the visitors have limited access... a pity.

We went to visit the castle. The tower was in refurbishment, but still we waked around. The history was interesting. Made some pictures!

I"m starting to correct where is placed the "Castelo de Beja" is in the city of Beja (like the name tell us) not in Beringel (that is a very small village 11Km from Beja). "Castelo de Beja" is the simbol of Beja city. The castle is already open to be visited
