About Ebora Megalithica Guided Tours
We have a passion for megaliths. And sharing this passion is our mission.Present day Evora is in the center of an ancestral landscape that has a significance for all Humanity. Here you can find the remains of some of the oldest monuments of mankind in Western Europe. The early farmers and shepherds that created them, some 7500 years ago, didn't just create beautiful and impressive monuments - they have envisioned an entirely new way of relating with their world and have set the foundations for our current way of life. The megaliths, embodying the new ideology of this period in it's fullest - the domestication and transformation of the natural environment - remain today as distant messages, hidden in the fullness of time.Join one of our tours and discover more about your own history.

We really enjoyed this interesting tour with Mario. He is very enthusiastic, knowledgeable & friendly. We would never have found the stones without him and frankly wouldn’t have managed to drive our rental car over the narrow sometimes bumpy/rutted dirt roads. Mario gives very helpful detailed instructions about the meeting spot for the start of the tour. He also sent us a map with detailed instructions on how to get from our accommodation (about 10 minutes drive outside of Évora) to the free parking near the wall of the city. Highly recommended.

I'd heard that Evora is in the center of one of the areas in Europe richest in megalithic remains, and I thought it would be best to see these as part of a tour rather than trying to pick my way through the countryside to find them. This was definitely the right call - some of the roads you need to traverse are dirt, bumpy and rutted, which isn't something you want to do in a rental car. Ebora Megalithica (EB) came highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. Their morning tour encompasses the Cromeleque dos Almendres (c. 5500 BCE), one of Europe's largest stone circles with 95 standing stones; the Menhir dos Almendres; and a chamber tomb from c. 4,000 - 3500 BCE called the Anta Grande do Zambujeiro. You leave from the center of Evora at about 9:30 and will be back by 1:15. The tour includes a short stop at a visitor's center/shop run by EB which was a great place to find intriguing souvenirs made of cork -- I picked up a handbag and a baseball cap. Tours sizes are limited to 5 or maybe 6, because you must fit in the van that's used to drive you out to the sites. Mario, a trained archaeologist who leads these tours, was a delight. His English is fluent, and his passion for the subject and his depth of knowledge are both immediately evident. He was engaging and a pleasure to spend three-plus hours with. An added bonus was that because he grew up on a nearby farm, he was also extremely knowledgeable about the processes of cork cultivation and harvesting, as well as the local plants and flowers. This was one of the best short tours I've ever taken, and was one of the highlights not just of my visit to Evora, but of my entire trip to Portugal.

We found this tour through Trip Advisor. Mario answered quickly, picked us up on time and gave us a fascinating glimpse into pre-history. Taking the tour from an archeologist-paleontologist who so obviously loves his work was perfect. If anything the tour was too short - we could have continued with Mario all day!

The tour hosted by the very friendly guide called Francisco has been one of the best tours i have ever done in my life and definitely the best one in Évora. The viewpoints were amazing, the ride on the bumpy roads were loads of fun and the nature was just stunning. An amazing Live Electric Tours experience. The Twizzy cars provided by LET had cutting edge technology with free wifi, free parking, a live stream camera and soon also a Audio GPS guide. All in all, the technology combined with nature, friendly staff and great touristic attractions made the trip unforgettable.

I was a solo traveler who emailed Mario and he was able to accomodate me on a group he was taking out. He is knowledgeable, great with English and Portuguese, and deserves the successful business he has. I was happy at the end, along with everyone else on my tour.
