About
We have a passion for megaliths. And sharing this passion is our mission.Present day Evora is in the center of an ancestral landscape that has a significance for all Humanity. Here you can find the remains of some of the oldest monuments of mankind in Western Europe. The early farmers and shepherds that created them, some 7500 years ago, didn't just create beautiful and impressive monuments - they have envisioned an entirely new way of relating with their world and have set the foundations for our current way of life. The megaliths, embodying the new ideology of this period in it's fullest - the domestication and transformation of the natural environment - remain today as distant messages, hidden in the fullness of time.Join one of our tours and discover more about your own history.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the Way you want to go—-through the eyes of archaeologists—-who aren’t only rock people, but it’s a combination of scientist specializing in rocks, culture, and geography. You will learn about all three regarding the people here and the land from so long ago. Learned a lot about the land around. There was a major closed site but they had access to private land nearby.

We did two tours with Sira - the megaliths and the old city aqueduct. Both were fabulous. Sira knows her stuff, loves it and is a gifted and kind teacher. Highlights of our time in Portugal.

While we were on our tour with Sira, we saw others who came to see the megaliths. They would wander around a little, then head off, surely not understanding what they had just seen. It’s exactly what we would have done if we hadn’t had the fortune of finding Ebora Megalithica. Sira is a “public archeologist,” passionate about helping people understand and appreciate these ancient monuments and their connection to us today. She is a font of fascinating knowledge, not only about ancient history and cultures, but about the Alentejo region and Portugal in general. Ask her anything, she will enthusiastically share her knowledge and engage you in conversation. A highlight of our two weeks in Portugal. We highly recommend this tour as the best way to appreciate these sites.

We are normally not people who take tours, preferring to do things on our own; but realized this was something we should leave to the experts. We had an amazing tour. Sira is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about this subject that she obviously loves. We learned so much, not only about the megalithic sites but also about the cork trees, the other plants and even the animals of the area. The history and how it relates to our time is fascinating. This tour was a definite highlight of our trip. It was truly a privilege to be amongst these megalithic sites and learn so much about them. What was disturbing was seeing people being so disrespectful of these sites which are thousands of years old. They should be better protected from damage caused by humans. Thank you Sira!

This was a fantastic tour! Normally we are hesitant to take tours but this was worth ever moment of the 3 hours we spent. Sira has a depth of knowledge and passion that brought the site to life for us in a way you couldn't possibly experience on your own. Her presentation is not only factual, interesting and philosophical but encourages full participation in the theories and arguments. Don't miss this tour!!!!

We had a wonderful tour with Sira! She’s so knowledgeable, and clearly loves what she does. We loved learning about the local history and archaeology from an expert. Our 8 year old was with us, and he enjoyed the tour as well. I highly recommend this tour company, and especially Sira!

This was a very worthwhile tour and so much better than driving to the sites ourselves, then not really understanding what we're looking at once we're there. Sira was an excellent guide, not only a great educator able to share her vast knowledge of archaeology, but also passionate about her field and excited to pass on her expertise. We left convinced that human nature hasn't changed that much in thousands of years, and Sira made it a lot of fun to reach that conclusion.

I expected Sira , our guide and an archeologist, to know about the megaliths we visited but I didn’t realise she would be able to give us so much environmental, land use, social and scientific context. We learned about prehistory, but also contemporary life, in Evora and the wider world. We learnt what was fact and what was conjecture or theory. Sira’s thought provoking approach really helped us to engage with prehistory.

Hi, we spent 2 nights in Évora. It’s a very nice town to explore on your own—aqueducts, Roman wall, cathedral, town museum (including some Neolithic artifacts which are nice to see after the megalith tour). Very good food, wine tasting if that’s your thing. If you’re doing a day trip, plan for a long day! Évora was our favorite stop in Portugal!

yes, we we're picked up at our hotel, it was several hours, maybe half a day, we went through viator in booking this trip, but I just checked the viator site to give the the name of the tour, and I don't see it there. try googling the web site for the ruins itself, maybe that will help you, it is WELL worth it. good luck!

Hi.
Can I book this tour ahead of time from the US? I sent an email to eborameglithica but haven’t heard back yet. Can anyone else advise how you did it?
Thanks!

Agree with other comments - I booked via email too so try again and add email address to your contacts so it doesn’t go to junk. It’s a great tour.

can i book this tour for 2 people for 2nd Sept? what is the cost? How do I pay?
Rick S
Saint Paul, MN138 contributions
Sorry, I am just a client who reviewed this tour, so I do not know about openings for Sept. 2. For your information, we paid 25 euros each (plus a tip, which I added because we enjoyed the tour so much), paying in cash at the end of the tour.
Because TripAdvisor does not not allow contact information in a response, try looking up Ebora Megalithica Tours on the internet. I'm sure you will get to Mario's website or email address that way.

I understand that you pay them the day of your tour. Do they take credit cards?

I paid in cash after the trip. I'm sure they appreciate cash, given the small operation.

How far in advance can you book the tour? Did you book the day before, or weeks in advance?
Jane E

We booked a fee weeks in advance via email. I think there are only 6 seats in the van and at the time we went there was one English tour a day. If you have your own car you can follow the van but the roads travelled are full of pot holes. There's no pre-payment for this highly recommended tour.
