We rented a car to visit smaller towns like Faro and Sagres while staying in Lagos. Parking is ample outside the old town so that you don't have to navigate the narrow streets. Lots of food choices and boutiques. History at every turn of the...More

More pleasant than Albufeira by a huge distance and a bit more genuine Portuguese feel than Vilamoura. Nice to stroll around. Lovely cobbled streets. Quiet when we were there. Good for a couple of hours site seeing excluding lunch or dinner.

This is worth a couple of hours to wander around and check out the buildings and the main church. Also around a couple of the entrances are local cafes where the prices are much lower that town.

We went to Old Town Faro on the train from Portimao. It is really lovely but very small. The church and museum were interesting and the views from the tower were great. It is a lovely way to spend an hour or two but there...More

A part of Faro's history, with superb views from the tower;but note, there are 68 steep steps to reach the top. Try to avoid the crowds and enjoy taking lovely photos. Relax.

Too easy to land at Faro and rush off to your resort. We spent a great day wandering inside the walls of the old town. Loads of history, Roman, Moorish, Medieval, etc. The Museum is worth a visit also. Some nice bars and 3 great...More

The streets of Old Town are not very busy on weekends it was nice to stroll around with not many people. This allowed me to take some great photos.

Our first stop in Algarve, only stayed here for one night. It follows a similar structure to other seaside villages with it's cobbled and narrow streets. Though it is the 'airport town', it wasn't as busy as we would've thought it would be. The Old...More

Yes buses run every 15-20 minutes. I didn't take the train in Faro but the train map looked simple. I used the train when I was staying in Porto and it was fine.

You can easily walk from the train station & bus station to the Marina & old town. The old town is not huge so is very doable on a day trip.
