About Animaris Ilha Deserta
At Animaris we have created several products in the field of Nature Tourism. Since we started in 1986, our focus has been respect and conservation of the environment, especially the Deserta Island, also known as Barreta. Today is still the only uninhabited barrier island of Ria Formosa. The Estamine Restaurant, recognized and awarded for its gastronomic quality and energy efficiency, is the only structure on the Island. Open every day of the year, with panoramic views of the Natural Park and the Atlantic Ocean, we specialise in the fresh products of the ocean and the Ria, such as fish and seafood. We also manage the beach concession on the Island, with support services such as sun shades and sunbeds, and a team of lifeguards during bathing season (June to September). Our fleet, for transportation and tours, is composed of boats of different types (semi-rigid, speedboats and catamarans), with capacities between 10 to 200 passengers.

Our second trip by ferry. Lovely walk round the island ending up on the beach. Didn’t have a meal this time, just a beer, but were welcomed.

Ilha Deserta is a must see in my opinion when in Faro. We took the €5 ferry (€10 return). As you exit the ferry to your left is the path to the beach which faces the Atlantic Ocean. On your right is another path that takes you to another smaller beach with calmer water which faces onto the Ria Formosa. It was not busy and we wish we had more time there. There is only one seafood restaurant there which is quite expensive so I’d recommend taking lunch and lots to drink with you.

The island is beautiful but people are killing it. If the "owner of the island", the boats, the restaurant does not urgently start an education from the moment people buy the ticket, the island will soon stop being an attraction. I saw many people taking bags full of shells home, leaving their waste, in short, if there is no education, paradise will not last.
