Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As you will see from the photograph that I will attach, the entrance door to the church as the most interesting and unusual part of the church. It is decorated in typical Manueline style, featuring coils of rope for some unobvious reason. The inside is quite plain, though the columns feature the same coiled rope and the main chapel and altar are quite spectacular.

This is a lovely little church to visit while on Monchique. Interesting features around the door. The trees around the side were in blossom and the sun shone making it look wonderful.

A more down to earth church than many. Wooden barrel vault, beautiful altar. Pillars with their fishermen’s ropes.

what an interior!
Mostly gold panited and the caretaker put lights on especially to enhance it, then locked the doors after us!

If you visit Monchique, this is worth a visit. Whilst it is not a knockout experience, it offers a fabulous altar setting and a beautifully carved statue of Jesus on the cross.

As we approached this impressive looking church only to find it closer on a busy tourist day. Still it was nice to walk around this bit of Tavira.

Just off the main stairs/ street this church is simple but pretty. The doorway is the most interesting feature.

The church was nice and the building very cute. The best bit, as with the convento up the hill, was an opportunity to explore Monchique on foot in order to reach it.

We found throughout our trip to Portugal that it was impossible to predict the opening days and hours of churches and that many of them don;t have web sites or up-to-date web sites. This place was closed so we did not get a chance to go inside - the exterior is interesting though!

Have never seen a Church without a cross over the altar, it has a statue of Mary instead It a lovely church inside, with a number of small chapels around. It is well worth a visit but the town is very hilly and there is a steep hill up to the church.
