I had the chance to visit the castle last summer because of a weekly event they use to have, Secret Sunset. The Castle itself is probably the most visited moment in the Algarve together with Sagres. Highly recommended. We had dinner inside the castle and enjoy the concert during sunset. What a wonderful scenario! As many other monuments in the... More

There are a number of sheer drops without safety barriers involved if you want to walk around the castle wall. I would suggest this is not suitable for anyone unstable on their feet, young children and people who have been drinking alcohol. There are some lovely views from the castle walls. In the grounds there are also some gardens and... More

We caught a local bus into Silves and had a great day. The Castle and Museum well worth a look. Great views from the castle walls. Also lots of little streets and shops to explore. Plenty of lovely cafes too.

Recently visited this place to get a flavour of Portugal. There isn't much left in the castle but the history is interesting. Whatever is left of the castle has been maintained so well. The streets leading to and from the castle are so well laid and unbelievably clean. The external walls of the castle are still rock solid. I got... More

A good afternoon was spent admiring the walls of the castle and the beautiful views from the ramparts. This is a fairly large castle, though most of the interior is in ruins. Well kept landscaped gardens, which had an exhibition on of stone carvings when we visited. Good cafe and bar. Not expensive to visit. The combined ticket with the... More

Not much is left of the castle in Silves if not for the surrounding Roman walls. A path has been created so one can walk all around and thus can admire the view of the city below as well as the scenic mountain views.

Large hill top castle overlooking the town. You can walk around the castle walls and get fabulous views. The castle itself doesn't have a lot going for it but its worth it for the views.

After the long walk up the hill, we were delighted to find the castle open on a Sunday afternoon in November. As over 65s we're we're pleased to pay the half rate of €1.40 each. In fact it was really worth more than that... my husband walked all the way around the walls but I found the lack of barriers... More

Lovely Moorish castle. Very clean and well kept. Great castle walls which are very easy to walk around, with wonderful views. It was great seeing all the storks in their nests, from the castle. Nice cafe inside. Cheap to visit.

Someone in our hotel suggested we go to Silves. It has a lovely castle. And a nice town. They were right. We ended up spending 5 hours in this town. The castle is worth a visit, it even has a coffee shop in the middle of the grounds!! Also the church and museum. Plenty of little coffee shops and we... More
