It didn't look like much at first, but following the interesting film, room after room of displays, all interesting even to non-volcano lovers, unfolds. It's a weird place, and memorable.

I still can’t believe people just sat and watched the volcano erupt. T was very windy the day we went and it was like being sand blasted . I noticed some of the workers parked up the road a bit to stay out of the...More

This museum-like place is Good. It’s nice to get to know about the origin of the vulcano that formed the surrounding as well as how vulcanos formed the Azores. It has been neatly built into the ground in order to respect its environment.

We visited this stunning force of nature, were herded into the interpretation centre for a hollagram in complete darkness so beware then on to a short film with the guide insisting on quiet even from those not on the tour. The one hour time frame...More

Good site, we enjoyed the volcano exhibits in the underground area. The introductory movie wasn't that great - it seemed non-specific to the volcano. The climb up the lighthouse didn't have a great pay-off.

The fascinating geology here is positively Martian — bold and elemental, it was inspiring just to stand and to reflect on the power of nature. The interpretive center cleverly sits below the volcanic soil, carefully planned not to disrupt the landscape. The 3D movie is a...More

We stayed very close to the centre and were intrigued by the history of the volcano and eruption, only 60 years ago! The centre is subterranean and very smart, modern - it’s quite large (4 or 5 main areas), there’s a good display of lava...More
