Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A movie plays every half hour, which is fine to start with. Then you walk around the museum and you can look at various attributes from that time. Pretty impressive but don't expect too much of it.
We had a great time. Then have a Kima drink it the terrace overlooking the Pico!

The museum is very interesting, with a very recent and original aesthetic. It is worth seeing the documentary about 20 minutes (it has sessions in several languages) to get to know the hard life of whale hunters in this area of the Azores. The exposed artifacts are very interesting and everything is very well explained. I got richer out of this experience!

It was quite upsetting to see the whale trade history - photos of magnificent whales being killed and gutted for their oil - they didn't eat the meat. It's a small museum but only 2 euros to go in and they have the old equipment and vehicles they used to use for the whale trade which ended in 1984. I'm glad I went but be prepared to be upset.

Not the biggest museum in the world neither the smallest.
Welcome is good
Collections are great, their shape is so well cared that we can't help to touch it (sorry to the guard, touching is of course forbidden)
You can feel life at whale hunt time
If you need interactive media you will have a short documentary in English or Portuguese that explain well the life in the late 50's / early 60's
Thank you

This was a nice place to visit to understand the significance of whaling during the history of Azores, especially the island of pico.
Good collection of artifacts.
Nice place to be if the weather is not favorable outside.

Nice museum which does not only show the history of whaling on the island but also art related to whales. They play a short movie on whaling alternately in Portuguese and English

Very good little museum, minimal entry fee and very interesting exhibits. Highlight for us was the 1970 documentary on whaling on the island, very armospheric. Some caution needed for sensitive (vegetarian) children.

As participants of the whale watching tour offered by Espaco Talassa you get free entry to the Whaler's Museum. There you will find some information about the history of whale hunting on the Azores. A film shows you how whaler's life used to be. All in all you learn a lot about whale hunting but I was missing something. Some kind of structure like this is how the hunted, this is how they used the whales , why they abandoned it.... Like this it was just a nice display of things from the time.

Hello, I was very impressed with the film about whalers, which we watched in the museum. But unfortunately could not find in in the Internet. Who was the film director and is it possible to find it?
