The ice cream and the green tea

The goal it was to visit "Chá Gorreana" factory and to know it history and it birth. But by the end my mind was fixed only on the green tea and the icea cream green that I tasted!

I'm glad I checked it out Cha Gorreana for a couple of reasons: 1. I'd never been to a tea plantation before and 2. I needed gifts to take home and the tea is perfect. Their manufacturing process is antiquated and labour intensive. Their orange pekoe product is delicious. I learned how green and black tea are related.

We went to visit the Cha Gorreana Tea Plantation in Portugal on our cruise to europe. Because the Azores are basically made out of volcanic lava you would not think that it would be a good place to grow and harvest Tea. But history tells us that it was an excellent place for making Tea. We had a great tour... More

Free entrance and free tea. How much better can it get? It has a bit of an old feeling to it, but I think that also gives it a unique feeling. There are some machines that show how the tea is made, but I miss a little bit of information next to it. There is also a short movie you... More

Who would have thought that they make great tea on the Azores, do visit Cha Gorreana, it is free and the make sure you try the tea! You will see the tea plantation from the outside, and you will walk through how they harvest and make the tea

I am not a tea drinker so I guess I couldn't fully appreciate the process. We were offered a couple of samples of the tea but no one in our group purchased anything. They offer liqueurs and jams and a few other island gifts but expensive! Our Azorian tea towels were purchased for 2€ elsewhere and the tea factory had... More

Our tour guide brought us to this place, wonderful scenery and great photo-op of the tea plantation. Inside (it's free) there is a display of many original and often still used machinery, very interesting to see! There is a little giftshop at the end where also a video is shown of the history of the tea plantation, and you can... More

This tea plantation is the oldest of the only two plantations still in existence on the island of São Miguel. The oldest tea in Europe is produced on the island of S. Miguel in the Azores. The Gorreana Tea Factory has been running (without stopping) since 1883 and has gone through five generations. Gorreana Tea is much appreciated for being an ecological product, free of pesticides, herbicides and fungicide. In the vicinity of the factory, we can see long lines... More
