This is a somewhat unique adventure to visit ancient lava tubes that are just 15-20 meters underground. The visit is short but interesting. The tour guides are helpful and allow you to ask as many questions as you have....no rush. They offer tours in multiple...More

This was quite disappointing. When they told us it was 45min just €5 I thought it would be worth it. It’s no more than 40-50mt lava have in which 10-15mt is a concrete tunnel. The guide stretched out his talk to reach the 45min tour....More

This was an interesting experience. Be aware that you need to wear a protective cap and a hard-hat, which can get a bit hot. Don't go if you have problems walking on uneven floors.

A short but meaningful visit to a lava cave. Our tour guide was a truly passionate young guy, who seemed way more enthusiastic towards his job as a scientists / cave expert than I expected. His manner of tour guiding was very entretaining and meaningful,...More

You can opt for a short or long tour of the Gruta do Carvão — the short one is under an hour all in all, and gives you a look at two medium-large cave areas, together with a very interesting explanation of the history of...More

It is damp in the caves and the ground surface is very uneven in places as the lava has left rugged and quite spikey areas. As long as your footwear is strong enough to protect your feet and the soles are non slip and thick... More
