any trip to ponta delgada should include a trip up into the mountains to see these amazing lakes, set among the now extinct volcanoes. the journey includes a number of lakes and fabulous views over both the north and south coats. Allow a good 3-4 hours minimum and 50 euros as a set fee for a private taxi tour

A must visit place if you visit São Miguel. Peaceful and beautiful. Wondering how stunned were the first explorers back in the 15th when they encountered this beautiful natural scenario.

Looking at photos of this place, I thought it was worth the visit. Actually seeing it in person truly is breathtaking. It is virtually impossible to take a bad photo here. There are several lookout points surrounding this area. Drive slowly. Take it all in. Enjoy all of the flowers. The entire island feels like a big botanical garden and... More

Make sure you visit on a clear day for the best view. Not a lot of parking room so could be crowed in the summer

Just fantastic to stand at one of the view points high up and looking over this natural phenomenon. Then enjoy the winding road down to the lakes and enjoy some great walks

Truly fabulous scenery. We had two sunny days in a row. First day we did a fantastic horseback ride with Quinta da Terca stables. Went back a second day by car- took a leisurely drive along the coast, soaking in the beauty of Mosteiros and environs. The view at Vista do Rei is amazing. And the view at nearby Boca... More

We booked a driver to take us on a short tour. Mostly because they can include the meal cooked in the ground of the Caldera. They have large clay tubes in the ground volcanic Sulphur springs . By noon they return and retrieve the meal. Great experience

Most visited scenic vista on São Miguel. Check out the twin lakes from the Kings View or venture into the abandoned hotel for a panoramic picture. Hotel is a bit creepy & you will have to ascend 5 flights on a wide concrete spiral staircase but well worth it.
