The interior of this cathedral is quite simple compared to many that you see. It may have been ornate at one time but it was reconstructed in the 1989’s after an earthquake

Located 250 metres from the Main square is the Se Cathedral – easy walking distance – about 5 mins up Rua Da Sé. It is the largest church in the Azores and was built in the late 1500’s. We were told the silver altar was...More

We were in Angra for quite a few days, so we visited everything. Yes, the church in the Museum is more beautiful, and the inside of the Se Cathedral is plain and dark. I found the contemporary art work in the pillars to be very...More

The outside of the cathedral is beautiful but the inside is not worth the money to be visited. Much better to go to the church that is integrated in the city museum (MAH).

It was awesome feeling being there. We saw wonderful churches, chapels .. gardens, museums all within walking distance, also coffee shops, shopping for local products, also for great local pastries and coffees.

Portugalia (both the Azores and the mainland) are full of beautiful churches, lots of them covered by Azulejos. In comparison this church seems to be rather plain both on the outside and inside. Don't bother.

The cathedral is several centuries old but has been devastated by earthquakes and fire, only to rise phoenix-like. Of particular interest (to us, anyway) was the center altar design and the modern renderings of the stations of the cross.

This is the main Church in Angra, but to be honest it is not that special. Unfortunately an earthquake destroyed a great part of it and now it's not so beautiful.

Very dark and gloomy from the inside. Nothing could inspire me. Actually, the building looks a lot better from the outside.
