We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Locals say that the last witch burnt at the stake in Portugal met her death in this square, but the majority of the hundreds who met their deaths in this square would have been Jews.
Voltaire wrote in Candide that '... it having been decided by the University of Coimbra that burning a few people alive by a slow fire, and with great ceremony, is an infallible secret for preventing earthquakes.' It was even given a name, 'auto-da-fé' - the burning of a heretic.
Now there is not much to see in the square and it is a short climb up a narrow street to get there. It is said that the worn stone in the square was where people were executed, but I doubt this. What axeman would chop into stone?
The square is worth visiting for its historical significance and you can always close your eyes to image the victims screaming as the flames 'slowly' burnt them alive, while hundreds of locals looked on cheering. (Public executions were a popular spectator event throughout Europe.)

I'm unsure exactly what the point of this open space is. To me, it would seem like an homage to the Jewish people and the Inquisition. When I arrived, I didn't even know I was standing right in the middle of the patio. I had to ask someone who was working in one of the adjacent office buildings. No one seemed to know anything beyond the name.

A Praça da República was not always the official name of the place, the name initially was Praça D. Luís. The change of name has to see with the change of the political regime on the 5th of October 1910.
This location is located above the “Public Market” and only a few steps away from the University of Coimbra, and from there it is only a few steps away from the “Old Town of Coimbra” were there is allot to see, you can easily spend a whole day on and around this location, also the “Parque da Sereia or Parque de Santa Cruz is on this location.
Mostly filled with allot of students during the evenings.

There is nothing to see here or commemorate or remember that Coimbra was a site of Inquisition activities.

Do not bother to visit. Spend your time elsewhere in town.
