How to reach the edge of the Ecumene...
Feb 2020
The cherished dream of the Greeks was to reach the edge of the Ecumene. Magellan in the XVI century proved that there is no edge. But the desire to reach the end remains in human nature. At least in the nature of tourists. We are goal-believing beings after all. Cape Rock itself is unremarkable. There are capes and more beautiful. But this is the edge of Europe, at least of mainland Europe. If you follow the Pet Shop Boys song "Go West", then you are here! The most convenient way to get there is through Sintra. The bus departs from Sintra Train Station. The meaning of the existence of the bus is not in the delivery of tourists to Cape Roca, but in the ability to move local residents, schoolchildren between villages. The entire route takes about 40 minutes. Although only 18 km separate Sintra from the cape. While the bus goes to the final destination and back, you have time to photograph everything: the cape, yourself dear and beloved, the rocks, the Atlantic Ocean, yourself again. The only thing you shouldn`t do is climb over the fence. Every year, tourists are killed or injured here after falling off the rocks. A Polish couple died in August 2014 while taking selfies. While waiting for the return bus, you can visit the gift shop where you can buy magnets. Someone buys certificates of attendance, apparently the photos are no longer convincing. many interlocutors..

Fantastic place with many options to hike... bring some jumper as it gets pretty windy even during very hot summer days.. walk further from the lighthouse to get some amazing views.. we have spent 4 hours hiking and was worth every step!

Unforgettable views
Sep 2019
The westernmost peninsula of continental Europe. A must-see when visiting Lisbon and its surroundings. A wonderful place, undoubtedly worth visiting, beautiful views, an old lighthouse. Amazing colors of the sea, steep cliffs, hidden beaches. Great coast and the vastness of the ocean. There is a café with a wine and souvenir shop on site, and the information point where there is a paid toilet.

Amazing place with a beautiful lighthouse and great views of the coast and sea. It’s worthwhile to make the time and visit the most septentrional point of the european continent.

Impressive
Jul 2020
Must see if you're in the area. Great to go during COVID 19, because hardly anybody will be there. Not quite on a par with the Cliffs of Moher, but close.

Worth stopping if you're in the area
Nov 2019
Given we were in the area, we stopped at Cabo da Roca which is the Western most point of mainland Europe. The vantage points of the coastline and Atlantic are impressive but there were SO many people crawling around (in places they shouldn't have been) to make the stop enjoyable. There is a nearby lighthouse you can also view if you wish.

Just Another Lighthouse
Aug 2019
To the Portuguese this place is a big deal but every country of the planet has a special farthest place. If its on your itinerary, try to go somewhere else in its place.

The point where the earth ends and the sea begins.
Jun 2019 • Friends
It’s the most westernmost point of the continent that was formerly considered to be the end of the known world.
The scenery it’s absolutely stunning and picturesque
The raging Atlantic Ocean waves pound the base of the massive jagged cliffs while challenging hiking trails follow the coastal.
It’s a place which gave you a special feeling. It’s a must see !!!

Wonderful view
Jan 2020
This place is near Lisboa and represent a mandatory visit in Portugal. In fact, This is the most westerly point in Europe, with a beautiful panorama of nature and the sea. It is very easy to get enjoying the visual. If you have the opportunity to go in the late afternoon, the sunset image is of rare beauty.
