Opened in 1998, the Oceanário was the centerpiece of the XXth Century's last World Fair, themed "The Oceans, a Heritage for the Future", and eternally binds Lisbon to the Oceans.MissionThe Oceanário’s mission is to promote knowledge of the oceans and bring up the public about the duty of protecting natural heritage, through changing their daily habits. While walking through impressive and unforgettable exhibits, visitors are encouraged to learn fascinating things about the oceans and, more importantly, how to make decisions in their daily lives that actively promote the conservation of nature.

Brilliant family day out, reasonable ticket price, can get a bit crowded around the aquarium area, a lot of adults not standing back to let small children see. Well worth a visit.

Very clever and beautiful exhibits, lots to see and very worth entrance price. Very crowded and full of children so quite loud. There was not much for younger children and it was a long circuit round and by the end most kids were crying with...More

I had a fabulous time here. It’s busy but there is so much to see and there are lots of different views into the big tank so you can see the tiger sharks, star fish, manta rays, sharks, sea otters above and below the water...More

I think if you have young children it would be a great place for something different when on holiday. I was a little disappointed as it is only 1 large aquarium with smaller minor displays downstairs. Luckily we were able to obtain cheaper admission price...More

Lovely place...kids were fascinated with the way they have recreated the ocean regions .. gets crowded ..and sometimes moving around inside is a little hard....should not visit on weekend...as indoors and cramped....not recommended for young babies. Very dark inside...

We visited this aquarium on a citytrip, as it was raining. Well, it's worth the visit even in the sun! One of the best we've ever visited, nicely arranged, great settings, both educational as simply beautiful. A very nice surprise!

We spent about 4 hours down at the Oceanarium, walking on the board walk and visiting the exhibition. We decided to do the permanent and temporary exhibition. We spent about 2 hours there. We loved all the exhibitions. It was worth the visit.

This is a 10Euro Taxi ride out of the centre of Lisbon but as we are avid animal lovers it was well worth the trip. The entrance has sculptures made from rubbish collected from the sea and the whole ethos is based on us taking...More

I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Oceanarium. We were first directed to the temporary exhibit on the second floor. There were beautiful underwater forests with freshwater fish. Calming music played with plenty of seating. It was very relaxing. The permanent exhibit was very well-organized,...More

The temporary exhibition is amazing and should definitely be seen before it goes. The main oceanarium is also great, and could take you a few hours to get around. The pasta in the restaurant was excellent, well beyond my expectations.

Late afternoon on a weekday is just perfect. I went there at about 16:00 and by the time I was out there was hardly anyone in line to enter.

Hello, We do not know of a nearby hotel. We stayed downtown at Brown's Hotel (which we highly recommend for adults) and took a taxi to the Oceanarium.
