Such a great place to just sit and stare and breathe while the whole world strolls on by. The ambience is lively and if you sit still enough, nobody really sees you watching it all, not even the birds sitting in the trees above your lovely coat. Yech!!! Yet, being there in the shade on a sunny day, soaking up... More

Beautiful Christmas market while we were there. Well kept gardens and a spectacular view across the city. Acensor da Gloria right next to the park runs you down to Avenida da Liberdade in spectacular style.

We enjoyed our night visit. It was the reward after a strenous uphill walk. There were food and vendors, coffee stand and small alfresco cafe. Would have liked to visit during the day as well and have more time to walk farther out in Bairro Alto.

Long trek up to get the view, which is good, funny being so close and above the houses directly in front but in a clear day great to do. There is nothing else in the immediate area to do or see, but a short walk and your at the Saturday market or through the streets to the cathedral and castle.... More

Visited on our private day tour. Worth a visit for the views of the city. It was raining that day but the views were still worth it.

A relatively good place to look at the city sprawl, but nothing exceptional either. The Convent of Sao Pedro de Alcantara on the other side of the Miradouro has a spectacular chapel and some intricate ceramic tilework in the nave of the adjoining church.

Stunning place that offers probably the best views on Lisbon downtown and uptown. The whole area nearby is great for a stroll

This awesome viewpoint is located at the top of Gloria's funicular route, an easy way to get to Bairro Alto rather then trudging up steps. The views of the city are magnificent many photo opportunities to be had.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
