Neighbourhood: Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!

The first place we found selling ginginha in chocolate cups and probably the best! Just remember, you get two shots in the cup so don't do like I did and eat it on first fill!

Nice little place for ginjinha in a chocolate cup for €1.85. Tries a few places in the last few days and this ginjinha was my favourite.

Ginginha do Carmo is one of the many pit stops for shots of Ginjinha (Ginja), the famous Portuguese cherry based liquor that you will encounter throughout Lisbon. This place is situated just next to the stairs at the end of Calçada do Carmo in between Praca de Rossio and Largo do Carmo.

Opening hours are 12pm to 12am, shots are €1.45 each or €1.65 if you want to take your shot in a chocolate cup. You can also order a variety of Ports and coffee here as well. Worth a quick stop and try if you are making your way through the area and fancy a Ginjinha shot.

A little small doorway under a staircase - already famous but visited by 'Somebody Feed Phil' during his visit to Lisbon. Order the cherry liquor in the chocolate cup - if you dont eat the cup on the first shot, there is a free refill. Always a quick pitstop as we prepared to climb the steps to dinner nightly while in Lisbon.
Friendly bartender and great little stop while enjoying Lisbon.

Small but cosy bar in the center walking up to Barrio alto. I had a glass of Rose Wine. Very friendly bartender as well. Loved the place

Great spot, great liquor. Nice after dinner dram. And ingenious selling of a “test tube” of the liquor you can take with you. We bought a whole bottle. And honestly I would do the regular shot and not the chocolate cup. It was good but more in the regular shot and cheaper by a bit. Stop
By if in rossio station area!

This was a nice and fun experience. Getting a little tipsy while exploring the city. It tasted delicious and the staff was friendly but shy

This bar is nestled into some stairs in a popular Lisboa district. We fancied a wee dram on the way to our next tourist spot and ended up enjoying a long shot of local port. Definitely worth a visit , especially if the weather permits you to soak up the sunshine on the small outdoor tables.

This tiny little bar is at the foot of some old steps close to Rossio station. It was an impulse purchase to give us some dutch courage for tackling the staircase up. It seems others had the same idea when seeing us with our shot of ginginha.

Guy was friendly, really refreshing and can even have it out of a chocolate glass but don’t forget your free refill as the chocolate glass is smaller 😂
