That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t miss it- it sticks out like a sore thumb. The weight and proportion do make it a bit better that the usual 19th cent. nonsense.

This is the place for a KODAK moment. When you walk from the commercial area through the arch you are at the river. This is one of the places we visited that will remain in my memory of our visit to Lisbon.

I recommend only walking through it, a good sight to see though. Reminiscent of Paris. A very obvious landmark. Skip the interior, not much to do. Difficult to get a photo with because of protestors on the plaza across the street.

This a wonderful City feature and dominates the view to the river from the City end. Wonderful craft as ship and gives the area real gravitas.

Very well preserved monument. Lots of fine details. Located where Praca do Comercio and Rua Augusta meet.

Nice monument between "Praça Comercio" and "rua Augusta". Good place to hide away and stay dry when it is raining ;)

Great location to view the city’s main square and learn about its history. Great design. Good vantage point to appreciate the hills on which Lisbon is based.

Among the miradouros the Arco do Triunfo also has a fantastic view to the Praca do Comércio, to Sao Jorge castle and to Alfama as well. Highly recommended viewpoint for 3 euros only or free with the Lisbon card.

Even with the renovation work, scaffolding and temporary safety netting, this beautiful edifice is still well worth a visit and the inexpensive lift ride to the rooftop viewing platform offer a fabulous view in all directions.

A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site,
Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply
"Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake
construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755
earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its
name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in
Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the
Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the
