Many visitors to this cathedral think, 'ho-hum another cathedral', but the organ here is one of a few that have pipes which extend out the front of the instrument and if my memory serves me correctly this could be Lisbon's oldest organ. So please don't miss this, if you venture here.

We went here as we were in the Alfama part of Lisbon anyway, and I can't really say it's worth going there. If seen a lot of Churches/Cathedrals, Mosques, Buddhist temples etc. and this is a realtivly poor experience. I seemed like it could do with a restoration inside out. It's easy to get there with tram number 12.

Expected a little more than what there was although there was a sunday service on. As churches i concur with earlier post the sao domingos in the main square area has more to see.

I would stop in here just because you need to go through the Alfama area and see other sites as well, but don't go simply because of this cathedral. I was unimpressed compared to other cathedrals that I have seen in other cities, but it was still beautiful on the inside and an OK spot to stop by in. In... More

Enjoyed our visit to Se Cathedral and loved the atmosphere. Liked the stained glass windows and the Rose window. Fee for cloister and treasury but rest of cathedral free to enter.

I am not sure many people visit Lisbon on their first or second trips to Europe. I do not think those who pop in for a layover or a day can experience enough. This is definitely a secondary or tertiary tour city for Americans - we are running into few. It is not Paris. in Paris, think of Notre Fame... More

Maybe because it is in Lisboa where everything else is astonishing this cathedral looks poor and old. I wish i have spent the time looking at something else.

Ok so I am a big fan if European cathedrals and live to visit them when I travel. But I have to say this is not that special.Small and not that interesting compared to many others I've seen. One tip is there is a church very close to Restauradores metro very close to the plaza. it's absolutely amazing and gave me... A must-see in Viseu. Dark and old but very charming. You can get there by walking uphill from Rua Direita. There are many souvenir stores, fabric shops and others.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
