    Nice visit
Nice small museum which displays remains of the ancient Roman theatre and objects of the ancient Iulia Olisipo, the Roman city of Lisboa. It is also possibile to visit the exhibition by the painter Barahona Possollo. The outside archeological area is free of charge, however the ticket for the museum is cheap, 3€.

    Interesting but not exciting
I love Roman history and ruins. These were interesting but there wasn't a lot to see (3 euro entrance fee). The theater was partially excavated. You could walk around the exterior and get a good look at them. There was a nice 3 story interior that allowed you to get close to some items. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Other than having limited exhibits, the only negative was these awkward, seemingly random nude paintings hanging throughout the venue. I don't consider myself a prude, but the paintings seemed inappropriately out of context with the ruins. It was creepy. On the bright side, there was a sign claiming this traveling artwork will be leaving in March 2024. This museum is a take it or leave it kind of place.

    Interesting museum
The highlight of the museum is the remains of the Roman Theatre which is just outside the main museum and free to visit from the street. However, the museum itself is worth a visit as it showcases items found as part of excavations and details the history of Lisbon's Roman past. The museum is very reasonably priced and takes between 1 and 2 hours to visit.

The remnants of the Roman Empire in Lisbon. Yes Rome did control this part of the world for a while, way out west for them. And of course they chose a site on the big hill to build an important place. The tour is good.

The Museum is actually built on top of the ruines of the Roman Amphitheatre. It was great to visit, and all the info are in Portuguese and English. But don't ask the locals about it: most don't know where it is!

Visited the Teatro Romano after visiting the Castle, as it's a short stroll down the hill in Alfama. well worth the visit and you can see that this amphitheater was very impressive over looking the river, which was a lot closer to Lisbon back in 1AD.

Have walked just by here so many times but only noticed the site very recently.

It is fantastic that you can see the theatre set into the hillside for free. It would have been nice to have a bit more information about Roman Lisbon- but perhaps that can be found in the museum itself.

Just around the corner from the cathedral (and the 28 tram line).

If you have done a tour of alfama it is worth popping up to the top of the hill to see the roman remains - the actual museum is €3 but you can see the amitheatre for free! Would have popped in but the staff were quite rude so decided to go for a coffee instead!

A small free museum presenting findings from Lisbon's Roman Theate. It was reportedly built in the first century BC by Emperor Augustus and had the capacity to hold up to 5000 spectators. It fell into disuse around the time of the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 A.D.,and remained buried until the Lisbon's post-earthquake reconstruction. This museum is a powerful reminder of Lisbon's Roman past.

Oh those Romans!
Everywhere you go there is evidence of their empire!
If you are in Lisbon, you should visit! Remnants of a small ampitheatre.
Getting there around this steep area is not easy. We chose Peter Tuk Tours (on FB), and it
was made easy!
Cheers

We happened on this museum by chance. First we saw the ruins, and then we discovered there's a proper museum across the street.
It's a little gem of the beaten path. There were only about five other visitors. It's not a grandiose place, it shows exactly this Roman theatre: what else was built on that spot, how the ruins were discovered the history of the excavation and research.
We also enjoyed the board game(s) a lot. We hadn't known that a very popular board game from my childhood was played (maybe even invented) by the ancient Romans!

I accept what a lot of reviewers are saying that there isn’t much to see. However go on a guided tour and it’s fascinating to hear the history of what they have uncovered and what is still hidden under the city. The archaeologist/historian that showed us around brought the site alive and helped us to appreciate the process they are going through to uncover more history. Please take the guided tour and you’ll enjoy the visit far more.
