Loved the walled city, great piece of history. Can't say quite the same for the commercialisation of the main street or the castle.

I stayed here with my husband for 2 nights, and was ready to stay more. The welcome was simple, but very personal, and that's is the beauty. It's very interesting to walk inside the castle, that has so many beautiful and peaceful corners.

Having been in France, Spain & Portugal for over a month, i confess i am a little bored with churches. This was a pleasant surprise. It was quite unique see people actually living inside the castle walls. The castle itself seemed to be closed, probably...More

Touristy, but we were in the area, and this place is a fantastically preserved medieval castle within old city walls. One can (and should) walk the top of the city walls, the view and history feel is magnificent. Also, there's the local cherry liquor served...More

Very scenic Portuguese town. Does have some steep walks thus not for everyone. Ramparts have no safety railings, stones are worn in places, caution needs to be used. Kids enjoyed being in the castle walls. Souvenir shopping pricey by Portuguese standards.

The castle is very pretty from the outside. You walk in through medieval gates and stare at the walls. Note - everything is outdoors. They are building a row of booths for trade fair. Also there is an amphitheater being built but there were no...More

My teens loved the walk on the ramparts but it’s very uneven stones with a sheer drop off down twenty feet on one side with no railing or hand grip. Would not recommend for anyone with balance issues, young or inattentive children or fear of...More

Just a short bus journey from Caldas da Rainha. The castle is very impressive. As some people have already noted in windy weather or if you suffer from vertigo it might be best to avoid walking along the walls. However, they are quite wide. Inside...More

Historic and charming. Not as large as some castles but well worth seeing. This is the main sight in this storybook town.

Staying at the Pousada is a great experience, lovely view from the dining room. There are some nice restaurants in the town, lots of bars and tourists shops. A place to walk around but not much to do. Nice churches and a... More

HI Margie As you come from Lisbon the bus will leave you in the parking area specially designed for. As you are going a little bit backward you'll find the TOWN'S GATE (nicely decorated with ceramic tiles - azulejos). To... More
