About
The Mourisca Tide Mill, located in “Herdade da Mourisca” (Sado Estuary Nature Reserve), is one of four known tidal mills in the Sado Estuary, and is in a prime location for birdwatching. This 280m2 structure was built to operate eight millstones simultaneously, which were active until the 1950’s. After years of abandonment, the Institute for Nature Conservation and Biodiversity purchased it and began its reconstruction and restoration. In 2012, after a co-management protocol was signed, the Setubal City Council was also entrusted with the responsibility of revitalising the mill and the surrounding area. A wide range of activities are carried out at the Mourisca Tide Mill throughout the year. Guided tours to the mill; Hiking (Mourisca Trail and Montado Trail); Birdwatching; Boat tours in the Sado Estuary; Workshops and themed exhibitions; Fairs and themed events (ObservaNatura and regional shows); Presenting environmental projects and Tasting oysters and regional products.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful mill that worked with the power of the tides. Completely restored. You can drink a good Moscatel on the terrace. Enjoy the peace and quiet or take a walk along the banks of the Sado to observe the many water birds.

when I was kid I used to go swim with friends here, so this is a special place for me. In the last year it was renewed by the entities and now you can visit the inside and learn how it worked in the past. you have as well a coffee where you can try the amazing Moscatel the Setubal.

Surprisingly good list of birds... considering the strong wind and heavy showers. Mostly waders and gulls, plus a pair of black necked grebes, several spoonbills and a distant flamingo flock. Comfortable visitor centre with extremely friendly and obliging staff. No admission fee. They serve snacks, but we took sandwiches so no idea about quality and value.
