I wrote this review once (in detail) but it didn’t save when I tried to add photos. Suffice it to say, Francisco is the best and you will not be disappointed if you hire him. We hated to say goodbye and wish we could have had him for another day. Thank you Francisco!

Based on the reviews of Francisco, our expectations were high to begin with, but Francisco exceeded them. We had the most amazing day hiking the "Western Europe Beaches" hike, followed by lunch, then we added the Pena Palace after. We could never have taken this hike on our own, and Francisco knows every step backward and forward. He loves his country and shared his wealth of knowledge of its history with us. He is a kind, caring, delightful person - you will LOVE your time spent with him. Just a few hours in, we knew we wanted to do another day with him (choosing a different hike), but of course he was booked. If you want to hike with the best of the best, choose two different hikes a couple of days apart and book well in advance. We cannot recommend him HIGHLY enough!

Our hiking experience did not disappoint us! If you are a nature lover and want to connect with Sintra in a different way, call Walk Hike Portugal. Our guide, Teresa, was more than prepared for us. She provided walking sticks, water, and even shared her sunscreen with us because we forgot ours. More importantly, she is very knowledgeable of the plants, fauna, and trails. Our lunchtime break at a local restaurant was amazing giving us a flavor of not just good food, but getting to meet locals off the beaten path and in a typical small town village. Teresa is wonderfully connect in both knowledge and spirit to nature and is passionate about what she does!

Our Sintra forest walk with Teresa was joyful and uplifting. Teresa was very considerate, she made sure we had the right attire and walking gear from the outset which enabled us to have an enjoyable experience throughout. Her passion for walking/hiking really shined through, she knew a lot about the area and it was great to get to know the area. I would highly recommend doing a walk/ hike with Teresa, she was amazing! I hope to find another opportunity to do a longer walking trip with Teresa in the future. Thank you

Teresa picked us up from the hotel and the whole experience was incredible from start to finish - she made sure our footwear, back pack etc were suitable. The trip turned out to be a private tour with just two of us with Teresa. She is knowledgeable, considerate (we weren't born to hike though it was meant to be an easy walk!!) and fun to be with. We discovered many amazing facts about wonderful Sintra forest. Our hike meant to be for 4 hours, but ended to be + 6 hours given our rather slow pace. Teresa was genuinely not phased with the time at all instead her focus was we enjoy the experience. After the hike, she drove us to Monserrate Palace which saves us from finding an alternative arrangement. I cannot recommend Teresa enough. We will definitely be back, wished we were there longer to explore more of Sintra. Many Thanks Teresa

We were 2 couples and some friends from home highly recommended Francisco to us. He exceeded our high expectations. Francisco picked us in a comfortable van from our Sintra Hotel and we went directly to the Peña Palace to avoid long entrance lines. He highlighted all the important places to note and see. He was very knowledgeable of many things including the history of Portugal. He patiently answered all of our questions. And there were many! However, if he did not know the answer he was honest to say so. After the palace visit, Francisco guided us through the magnificent gardens. His stories as well as the gardens and forest were enchanting. We had the pleasure to be taken to a local Sintra restaurant for lunch and Francisco ended up driving us to Lisbon after the tour (we were going to take a train). We all genuinely enjoyed our time with Francisco. After spending the day with him. we considered him our friend, not just a professional guide. We highly recommend Francisco to anyone and everyone! What a great guy and what a wonderful time you will have with him.

Francisco’s guided hike started at Cabo da Roca and took us along the scenic and stunning Portugese Atlantic coast line. Francisco is a true professional and wonderful guide as he provides great narration of both the natural beauty as well as interesting stories along the way. His knowledge of the trail is excellent and always keeps hikers informed of what is ahead. The experience is capped off by a wonderful lunch at the fish restaurant on Adraga Beach. Francisco is friends with the owners and the recommendations for lunch were great. Anyone who has a few days in the Lisbon area should take a day and do a hike with Francisco in the Sintra region along the coast.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Sintra-Casscais costal hike. Our guide, Francisco was professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. He is very skilled and understands how to work with individuals' needs and abilities. The route was stunning and offered many opportunities for excellent vistas. And it was a good workout without being arduous. I would highly recommend this hike!

We LOVED this experience! If you are traveling to Sintra and love to walk, talk, laugh, drink wine, eat with locals and want a memorable experience, ask for Francisco or any of his staff. They are client-centric, so so knowledgeable, accommodating and very organized. Pro tip: pack a picnic so that you can enjoy the beautiful views. Thank you, team Francisco! With love, Colin & Brittany
Is there an Internet page where we can find more informations about the walks? Where they take place? How much they cost? How long they are? ... That would be really helpful! Thanks!

Hi Francisco,
I am 60, healthy and active but am wondering the difficulty level of the beaches tour. It's listed as moderate and I'm not sure what that means. What happens if we're in the middle and it becomes too much? Is it a one-way and a ride back or circle? Are there any more details you can provide? Our trip is in the middle of June, what is the average temp on the hike? Thanks so much?

Dear Mrs.,
First let me apologise for the late reply to your question, but quite frankly we just missed it until now. We hope to still answering in time.
Your question is very relevant because our scale can be ambiguous depending from person to person, but we have no other way to classify it. Our hikes in the shore are tougher than the ones in the forest, because not only have deep ups and downs, as the ground is slippery. This is why we always take hiking poles for our clients, which are very helpful. This hikes, in the shore, aren't circular, however there are several escapes from where we can make it shorter.
In your case we propose the "Where the Land Ends and the Sea Begins", because is the shorter hike we have in the shore and for sure where it's more easy to return back or make it shorter.
The temperatures in June can be hot, that's why we propose this hike, which although can be done in the morning, it was built to be done in the middle afternoon. This is a relevant issue, especially in the Summer.
If you need any other explanation we would be pleased to clarify it for you.
Kind regards,
Francisco - Co-founder and guide in Walk Hike Portugal

How would you compare the difficulty level between the Western Europe Beaches tour and the Where the Land Ends..." tour? Thank you.
walkhikeportugalw
Sintra20 contributions
Hi, sorry for the late reply, but we only noticed it now. The Western Europe Beaches is about 45 minutes longer, but 3/4 of the path is the same as the Where the Land Ends..., so, because of it it's a little more difficult, but both have an average difficulty level.
If you have any other question we would be pleased to clarify it for you.
Kind regards,
Francisco

I will have maybe a week or so in Portugal in mid May and would like to do some day walks with maybe overnight stops at small hotels en route Any suggestions for me to consider and be inspired by ...

Dear Susanna, thank you for your contact. Besides the daily experiences we have packs of several days with overnight stops in small hotels or guest houses, has you wish. The only issue is that all our activities (Hike in nature mixed with culture heritage and wine experiences) are focused in one specific region and surrounding areas (Lisbon included), the Natural Park Sintra/Cascais. In a several days pack experiences we go further this zone, but still, far from the all Portugal territory. We are explaining this because we don´t know what do you have in mind and we do not like to create wrong expectations.
Anyway, the area we are talking about is reach, beautiful and remarkably diverse with completely different landscapes every day. Because our website is being updated, yet without all the new experiences, we can send you an email with an updated pdf presentation, where you can understand in a much better way what we can do for you. We just need your email for that. After that we can taylor made a proposal for you focused in your interests and expectations.
We look forward to hear from you.
Kind regards
Francisco
