The Palace of Monserrate was fully rehabilitated in 1856 taking the ruins of the Neo-Gothic mansion as a starting point. The results are amazing! The gardens are a fine botanical collection of plants and trees from all over the world. Full of winding paths, waterfalls, ponds and a stunning chapel which is being taken over by the plants-beautiful! A great... More

If I had to pick a place to live my life in exile, it would be Montserrate. There aren't any words to describe justly the beauty of this place. The grounds alone are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, filled with plants and trees from all parts of the world. Once you step on these grounds it feels like you've entered a different world... More

It's not my favourite palace in Sintra but it is also beautiful with its gardens and scenic views. The palace itself is small and almost all the rooms are empty.

It is worth visiting this interesting mansion that has Arabic, Indian, and Gothic styles. Not busy at all like Pena Castle. There are free, clean bathrooms inside. The grounds are also very pretty and scenic.

The architecture of the palace is unusual and pretty, but it is empty. The grounds are also pretty, but the garden are spaced out such that if you do not have the time to wonder around, I would skip this site entirely.

If you like nature and gardens, this palace will be your favorite. It has a fraction of the visitors of others.

Lovely peaceful gardens, which were still nice in November - must be even better in Spring. The house is quirky and interesting. Should be even better when renovations complete, especially if period furniture put in place.

My husband & I were pleasantly surprised & more-often-than-expected impressed by the beauty of the Monserrate Palace & Park. Don't skip the grounds! Follow the paths to wander through ancient woods, beautiful streams, and gorgeous architecture. Delights abound all throughout the grounds. We were both delighted by all the plants, views, and ruins. The palace itself was very interesting &... More

The building has Persian influences. It looks like in 1001 nights story. Small but really nice to visit. The park around it offers nice views. Advisable to visit it on a sunny day.

Both the palace and the garden were really beautiful, but I especially loved the garden and the small waterfalls. We were there in November, so we were lucky that it wasn't raining that day and we could enjoy all the beautiful views and gardens. Perfect for making pictures.
