Words cannot do the peak justice. We got engaged at the top last year after hiking from Pico Do Areiro and returned to the same spot this year on an even nicer day with the same tranquility and peace. I won't go on because it has to be seen to be believed but it is worth it and will live... More

Madeira Island is truly magical and one of the "must do" is the hike from Pico Ariero to Pico Ruivo. Any visitor to this magical island should sign up to Tobi Hughes' blog on Madeira Island News. Tobi is a wonderful ambassador for his adopted home and provides many videos and news items from Madeira. Thanks Tobi for your help... More

We were the last to arrive to the top, and with the sun going down it was a spectacular experience. You are literally on top of Madeira, looking at the stunning landscape and mountains around you, actually looking down on the clouds creeping into the valleys and up towards the mountain sides below. It is about one and a half... More

Fun journey by car up to the nearest car park then a 1 hour hike to the top via a well maintained and not too taxing path, views at the top are well worth it. Bring a hat if it's a sunny day as you're very exposed up there!

Take a taxi or rent a car and drive to Achada do Teixeira (which is basically a parking lot with a cafe). Then walk a 2.8 km stone path (called Vereda do Pico Ruivo) to the top of Pico Ruivo, the tallest peak on the island. It’s an easy walk that you can make in an hour or two, with... More

We used the Achada do Teixera route to hike up Pico Ruivo. You get up the trail from Santana. After the car park it's a 2.8 km ascent to the peak. The rest area at the carpark unfortunately was in a disused state and there are no toilet facilities; beware. Similarly half way up the route is another disused rest... More

We did the walk from Pico do Arieiro which is about 16km of just amazing view and moderately challenging terrain. Definitely need decent walking boots but just prepare yourself for the breathtaking views. Highly recommended this walk

We made the big and hard hikingtour. The Pico Ruivo is beautiful and the view on the top of it is fantastic, but you have to be in a good condition to make this hard tour. For us it was the best place to visit while our holiday on Madeira!
