We spent a week in Funchal over Christmas 2016 and went to the midnight service in the Se cathedral. Truly unique experience in this very devout island. Most of the liturgy was in Portuguese but surprisingly enough still included a lot of Latin. If your...More

The inside of this cathedral is better than we expected and as it is located right in the centre of Funchal, it is very easy to pop in and take a look around.

Nice to stop by for a relaxing think and to escape the bustle of town. Pretty inside but if time is limited skip this and concentrate on something else. Note that the cathedral is closed for several hours in the afternoon most days.
