Very atmospheric and interesting place to visit - exotic fruits, flowers, and fish market. Plenty of black scabbard fishes, freshly fished, and other kinds of sea inhabitants :) Note: the fish market is opened only in the mornings, the same about fruits for affordable prices....More

all of the fruit stalls are an absolute rip off, you can buy the same fruit else where in funchal for less than half the price that they charge, they tend to get a bit irate when you don't buy, but...………….the best are the flower...More

Maybe I made the mistake of believing all the hype, but I found the market very disappointing. It’s colourful, friendly, everything I read but remarkably small, with many stalls selling exactly the same produce. The fish market in the basement we covered, strolling, with photography,...More

This fruit and vegetable market is a great lace to visit especially on Friday when the local farmers also have stalls. I agree with some other reviews you have to be careful when you buy and ask the price before you decide from several stalls....More

Nice place to visit and have a look around at the fish hall, the colourful fruits and flowers, but wouldn't recommend buying here. We bought 10 dates (upstairs far end stall) from a young girl. We were charged 6.80 euros and if that wasn`t bad...More

I asked a mix of different fruits and ended up paying 30 € for a little bag (see picture). Absurde! Maybe there are some honest merchants there too, but I will my fruit in a supermarket next time.

Must visit place in Funchal even if you don’t want to buy anything. Here you can see fruit and vegetables that you don’t find in other places. All different types of passion fruits etc

This really is a bustling place, not only with tourists but mainly with locals buying their fresh produce. We marvelled at all the various fruits on offer.

This place is huge and crowded. A farmers market with flowers, fruit, veggies and spices. I personally don’t like crowded places but if you do, please visit this place. Please be careful and watch your belongings.

No. Nearby are many restaurants in a re developed part of old Funchal. You will find plenty of choice along the narrow street that runs up to the fort at Santa Maria.
