We visited the art gallery quite early on a Friday morning to find it very quiet. The gallery has quite an interesting collection with some nice pieces and the information boards are not extensive, but just enough adequate. The cost is quite low especially as we were charged the senior rate (not sure at what age this would apply in... More

This museum is set on a lovely tree-lined street in the old town partly up the hill from the seafront. The paintings of Henrique Franco are clearly influenced by impressionist and post-impressionist painters, but they are beautifully executed in a colourful palette and capture the character of the people and landscapes he paints. We particularly liked the 'Boy with Chicken'... More

This is a small art gallery by local artists (brothers) which may be overlooked. We went in here when it rained heavily. I enjoyed looking at the art and sculptures. It is well worth a visit when in Funchal. Even without the rain as an excuse. It is close to the school on the residential side of the island.

Beautiful little museum dedicated to the art of the Franco brothers, Henrique and Francisco. Sculptures and paintings.

Two brothers, one a painter and the other a sculptor, both working in Madeira in the first half of the twentieth century. A beautiful collection of the work of two extremely talented artists. The collection is housed in a lovely building within easy walking distance of the centre of Funchal. Don't forget your OAP discount.

We've visited Madeira many times and decided to find somewhere we hadn't visited before. If you have any interest in Art at all it's worth a visit. There are watercolours, oils, pastels, etchings and some sculpties on display. It's a pleasant way to spend an hour.

This museum is a lovely small museum, in Funchal. It is not in the center, where the most tourists come, but it is worth a visit. Ask in the tourist information for the details and the address. Closed on monday. It gives you a feeling of being in a museum of impressionist art in Paris. The entree is a small... More

This was my last stop on World Tourism Day. It's also the most difficult review to write. I really liked this small building and the bright red and lime green used to paint the walls but it is mainly a gallery for paintings and that's not really my thing. I preferred the small sculptures. If there was a rating of good... More

The museum is housed in a typical building from the 1940's and displays engravings, draws and sculptures of the two talented, recognised Portuguese Madeiran brothers Henrique Franco (painter, 1883 – 1961) and Francisco Franco (sculpturer,1885 -1955). As posted in a previous review the Museum communicates with its exhibits how native Madeiran artists went to the mainland and were influenced by... More
