Madeira Divepoint is located in the Pestana Hotel Madeira Carlton and is the only PADI 5 Star Training Facility and Dive Resort in Madeira. The dive – center has a fantastic ocean front location on the south side of Madeira. Let me say upfront that I decided to do the PADI Scuba Diver after this which means I booked one more dive with them. If you do this early in your trip you can even do the Open Water Diver (google PADI if interested).
The team was very professional with everyone being really nice and in a good mood and ready to help with any problems. You have to fill out some questions about your health so make sure you don't have any illnesses that might prevent you from diving.
We started with some basic theory about diving and after that went to the pool for the first exercises. Every step was explained and also shown before I had to do it. The teacher was with me all the time so it felt 100% safe at any point. Before going to the sea he made sure I felt safe and not anxious. We went over a few rules again. The hotel has a small reef upfront so this is where we went in. It was an amazing experience to bee in the sea the first time! You can see different fish and if you're lucky even octopus and sea horse. I wanted to see everything but at the same time you are really focused on breathing, the pressure and everything else. It's a little like driving for the first time - the view is not the most important thing.
My lessons were in English but they offer German and other languages as well.

Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone at Madeira Divepoint for making our diving so enjoyable. They looked after us really well both in & out of the water.
This was our 8th diving holiday with them &, as always, we had a great time. We keep coming back because they offer safe diving & excellent customer service.
We have some of our own gear but we hire wetsuits, BCDs & fins. All the rental equipment is in good condition.
We were in Madeira for two weeks & we did 14 dives – they were very good about trying to offer us a variety of dive sites so that we weren’t doing the same ones all the time. If they have a mixed ability group then they send 2 or more guides so that they can split the group up & everyone gets a dive that is appropriate for their qualification & experience level.
In addition to guided dives & courses for qualified divers, they offer Discover Scuba Diving courses for those who want to give scuba diving a try without doing the full open water course.
Whether you are a qualified diver or looking to try diving for the first time, I would highly recommend Madeira Divepoint.

This is an amazing experience I would recommend to try you are looked after right from the start you have a theory talk first covering all safety then you supply all the gear you need and in to the pool and if everything is good you head out to the sea where we had a 30 min dive or until my air got low and we were guided back to the shore it was amazing to see all the wild life and I never once felt unsafe we had one person who did not feel confident to go out after the swimming pool session they were really good with her and no pressure and even offered to have another go in the pool instead of the sea. It is so far the best thing I have done in Madeira lovely people thank you so much.

Very proficient and professional staff. Very well equipped dive business and all of good standard. I did five dives and nitrox was checked before signing off. Everything was explained and I had no issues. I found the staff to be very knowledgeable and very helpful. As a dive business they have to take customers of all levels and more experienced divers have to accept this; this may limit some of the dives. The dives were good and I had nothing to complain about. I booked the six dive package with my own equipment and after doing five dives still had to pay Euro81 for boat fees (Euro47.20 per dive). So the price on the website is not what you will eventually pay. This needs to be more transparent. Another frustration is cash only at the dive store -read I to that what you will. Overall, well worth doing and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Thank you for your suggestions, when booking online there is a remark right when choosing the option to buy, that surcharges of boat, entrance fees and other equipment like torches and cameras is charged separately, this enables us to always offer the lower price for our shore dives!

Friendly staff that were helpful and informative. The area for snorkelling is perfect , guarantee viewing of fish and easy to see as all close to area you get into the sea.

My wife and I are experienced divers who previously ran a dive resort and regularly dive in the UK. We were in Madeira for a weeks holiday and wanted to do a days diving. Wilfred was very accommodating and flexible when we needed to change our dive day at the last minute due to my wife feeling unwell. When we did get to go for a days diving (2 boat dives) the team made everything very easy for us. Everything was professionally done and instructions for getting kit ready were very clear. The boat is excellent and a really easy dive platform to use.
I think the quality of some of the equipment could be better given that you are paying quite a bit extra per dive to rent it (reason for not giving 5 stars). The pair of fins I was given to use had definitely seen better days, they were ripped in places, which significantly impacted on their performance. Having worked in diving I know the punishment that rental kit takes but there are definitely makes of fin that stand up to it better and they are just something that a shop has to keep replacing to maintain standards. The 6mm wetsuits that were provided were of good quality and did keep us nice and warm throughout the dive. The deficiencies in equipment did not really impact on my enjoyment of the dives but I would probably recommend taking some of your own kit if you have luggage space (we only had space for mask and dive computer because we were only doing one day of diving).
Overall the whole team made our day of diving in Madeira a very enjoyable experience and I would definitely recommend

Really enjoyed completing my Open Water Diver certification with Madeira Divepoint! 🤿🌊 They were very helpful and responsive in advance of my trip. The centre was well-organised and flexible on timings.
My instructor Wilfried was a really nice, patient and reassuring teacher, explaining things clearly and providing time for questions and to practice skills. I was grateful to have plenty of 1:1 instructor time which helped build my confidence and I could see that they prioritise small groups. The dives were great fun - we met lots of colourful fish, an octopus and a moray eel. 🐙🐟

Hello, can guests of the hotel use the pool next to the sea and access the sea itself from the steps by the surf club?

theory, pool training and 1 shallow dive with lot´s of fish life,
bring your camera or get one rented for great pictures,
then continue more dives or get certified in an easy program for more fun and beautiful dives,

Hola, es posible todo el ano, con buenas conditiones del mar,
con algunas species de delfines, es commun ver ballenas del barco, pero no podemos hacer snorkeling con ellos, como son protegios por regulamentos y nos respectamos estes para no molestar las ballenas

My son has his junior PADI OWD to 18m since 2018 and has recently returned from a week of 10 dives in Gozo. We will call in tomorrow to enquire as we've just arrived at Cabo Girao for 1 week but he is the only diver in the family. Is the Alphonso wreck very deep and can you accommodate a teenager?

it is a boat trip with a chance to get in the water with some species of dolphins,
some species of dolphins are protected, so we can not go in the water with them as we follow the regulations and not disturb them,
the chances are very good to meet the "resident" dolphins ( Spottet and Common dolphins ) and to get in the water with them,
nobody can guarantee what you can find on the trip with wild animals,
frequently we see also turtles and whales,

Hello,
we dive daily from shore and boat all dives are guided from an instructor. When junior Open Water Divers reach the age of 15, their credentials are then automatically upgraded to the Open Water Diver certification, and they are allowed to dive deeper, with other certified divers.
