Madeira holiday

Visited as part of a tour and well worth it for the spectacular views. Also good as a starting point of a walk.

The views here are amazing but you have to climb plenty of steps. I was with my family and walked till the first tunnel and back. On my way back I counted 1000 steps which are even more challenging at altitude and in the summer sun. Remember that above clouds you'll always find the sun.

Well worth the twisty drive to Pico do Arieiro or if you are fit enough join the walkers and cyclists. Driving the journey can start in Funchal rising through Monte, followed by a large forested area, and then after turning off the road at the summit of the pass (around 1000m) rising up the remaining 800m across more open moorland... We went by car, the view is amazing when you reach the top. It has to be a nice clear day to be able to see everything. There is toilet facility and a small cafe.

We travelled here on a tour on a mini bus and just the journey to reach the summit was amazing. It needs to be a clear day to enjoy the spectacular views.

You can go all the way by car. The parking is always crowded and quite steep. Nice little restaurant and an interesting exhibition center for Madeira petrels. If no vertigo it is possible to walk towards Pico Ruvio 1862 m. It is also possible to walk east of the telecom antenna and have a view of even more of the... More

The drive takes you through stunning views and through adventurous roads with extreme climbs and descents; the view from the lookout is amazing but only on a clear day.

Best place ever seen, breathtaking views, the toilets around the area should be free, after a long journey toilets is the first thing you need...

Wonderful views with very little effort. If you are doing a self drive parking may be tight. Arrive early or try parking at the roundabout past the main entrance.

The visit to this peak offers splendid views of the island and the Atlantic Ocean. However important is to select a really clear day with bleu skies for the best experiance. The visit can be very crowded, lots of tourists come too this peak with busses, jeeps, cars, etc. Because it is at appr. 1800 meters above sea level, it... More
