Must place every visit

Every year have to climb up to tower and have a look down the city Funchal. Good place to calm down and think about the World evilness.

we decided to have some physical exercise and walked up to the church from Funchal. Good for losing weight but much better is to take a cable car or a bus. The visit of the church is good to combine with the Tropical garden. The church is smaller but a cozy place - no entrance fee. You can climb up... More

Lovely, peaceful church - a haven of silence! Plain on the outside but ornate on the inside. Wonderful views from the terrace!

If you've visited Madeira and seen a few churches you will note that this one fits the predominant style. That said, it has unique features. Not least of which are the (many) steps up to it! The view is dramatic. Inside you can light a real candle, donations appreciated and meditate for a while. Outside you can observe the "Carreiros... More

Beautiful church, amazing views, right by where the "tobagganers' launch. Good public transportation to it.

We took the cable car up to Monte for a walk around and a visit to the gardens. We visited this lovely church & climbed to the roof for great views overlooking Funchal. The church interior, although not huge, is quite ornate.

A delightful church to visit with a very ornate interior. The trudge up the steps to the roof is worth it for the views.

A great place to visit, asside it's releigious importance wich devots recon by the thousands visiting everyday, the place itself is mangnificent. The air is pure mountain, surrounded by exoctic gardens and tradicional "Quintas" wich are Mansions the noble families used to spend the summer times for at it's 800 meters altitude it is cooller in hot seasons.

Opened up for the tourist and church attendee alike, this is on a must see for all. The grandness of the building, that dates to the early 1800 is well worth the time on a visit to have a few minutes of peace and quiet spent away from the hub-ub of the cable car, gardens and toboggan run. It requires... More
