- kquang102San Gabriel, California65 contributionsGreat mallFor a small island like Madeira, I was surprised they had a shopping center like the Forum that had all the shops people would seek from women clothing (famous shops in Europe like Pull & Bear and Stradivarius, Zara and H&M) to suitcases to Aldo as well as Lefties (reasonable clothing store for men and women). We found pretty great deal and quality, stylish clothing for reasonable cost. I really enjoyed shopping here with my family. Next time, I come with an empty suitcases and buy all my outfits at those storesVisited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 June 2023
- Rachael GFlint, United Kingdom112 contributionsShopping in Zara at 11pm bliss!Thrilled to find the Forum almost opposite to my accommodation. Easy to reach with brilliant shops. My highlights are Zara, Kiko & Lefties (kind of a Primark-style setup). Lots of other shops had excellent men & women’s clothes too. Lots of eateries, coffee shops & the ubiquitous McD’s. If you want a break from tourist shops & a nice bit of air con then head here! There’s a brilliant supermarket & bakery on the ground floor as well as a cinema (I don’t know whether they show English dubbed movies or not.) Open between 10am and 11pm (Yes, ELEVEN PM!) so you can pop over after a day by the pool.Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 29 June 2023

Although temperature was 30-35 degrees and unusually hot there was a lovely breeze here. Lots of lovely shops and for those old enough to remember a C & A! Really enjoyable shopping and prices were really good value.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2023

- Gardengel-IoWWest Sussex, United Kingdom810 contributionsIf it rains go shoppingOK, not very exciting. Very small C&A a bit disappointing even with a separate kids shop. Some places to eat. The cinema is here if you want that on a rainy day. There is a roof terrace but it isn’t really worth going up the final steps, its pleasant enough but more just a communal space than an attractive place to visit, there are a couple of benches and sea glimpses. There is a supermarket too, big enough but not huge.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 March 2024

Thursday 7th September and we visited this Shopping Centre, which looked more impressive than it actually was.
It maybe home to over seventy stores over three levels, I am sorry but maybe I missed something but I did not get the concept of stores around an exposed courtyard. It just seemed liked a mish mash of stores around which people meandered aimlessly around.
The largest store is the supermarket Pingo Doce. There are a number of independent stores as well as a few household names from back home in the UK, including H&M, Zara, Massimo Dutti, JD Sports and others.
There was a branch of C & A which left th UK many years ago, but fondly remembered. Even a visit here was disappointing.
There is a Food Court, with Restaurants and cafes, including McDonald's and Pizza Hut
We climbed the stairway up to the Roof Garden, sorry we bothered. The way it was promoted around the Mall that it would be something special, it was not, a waste of energy climbing the stairs.

It's a modern shopping center downtown. Interesting to see it so full of shoppers. Practical stores, plus some places with luxuries. Not particularly interesting, but useful.

Can anyone give me an email address for Marketplace Apartments please. I understand we need a code to enter the building but my travel company aren’t reliable to give me this before we arrive at Christmas. Also as it has no reception does anyone know how you find which is your apartment number?
Thank you.

All the rental cars on Madeira are sold out, or extremely expensive! I'm wondering if getting public transport and taxis around the island is a practical and economic option? How easy is it to book a taxi and are they reasonably priced?
Planning to be there from Monday to Friday next week, and rental car prices are starting at £560 for 4 days.

Does anyone know where I may find any authentic recipe books for Madeira? I know they don't have a particularly huge variety, but what they do is done very well and I can only find random themed dishes online or more pointed towards Portuguese mainland.

any suggestions for a decent vegetarian or vegan meal in central Funchal that does not break the bank? thanks

Best thing is to do self catering and pick up fresh produce from the market / supermarket.

Dear all,
We have booked a flight for 2 weeks to Madeira. However, we don't know where to stay. Most tours are for 8 days and they stay 7 nights in Funchal and travel back and forth. We don't want that (will be renting a car). Can anyone help us? What is best: 4 locations on north, south, west and east of the island or stay 2 nights each? But where? Wye love to hike and love the nature and prefer to stay in sweet towns.
Thank you!! Brenda.

Hello .. Good night.
My wife and I prefer to stay at "The Lince Madeira Lido Atlantic Great Hotel" which offers the possibility of hiking and makes transportation, because even with car you have the problem that you have to do the round trip and some are convincing do with local guide. There is the possibility to call and know the "levadas" they recommend.
