What a fantastic place which no-one seems to have found. Huge monastery with interesting history - you can see everything from the kitchens to the cells, toilets and the magnificent church. Also beautiful grounds with a chapel and lake

It is not often you get to visit a monastery in its entirety from the Church to the Chapter House, the cloisters, cells, refectory, Abbots quarters, guest accommodation and garden, you are free to wander. Although unoccupied since the late 1800s it has all been restored beautifully and there still is a feeling of calm and tranquility. The audio guide was very useful and guided us around all the features however there was also a leaflet in English which could have been used with a map. We were lucky when we visited as there were probably no more than 20 other people there and due to the vastness of the place it often felt like we had it to ourselves. We had heard the restaurant had closed down some time ago so were delighted to find the ladies belonging to a Holy Order had reopened it. The food was really lovely and the veal escalope had to be seen to be believed as it was enormous! All served by the ladies who did so with friendliness and good humour despite our limited Portuguese. This definitely was one of our highlights of the region.

It is surely an extraordinary place to visit while in Braga. The visit exceeded all our expectations. We have been amazed with how the monastery has been rebuilt from the complete ruins. Not only the walls and decorations have been restored, but the atmosphere itself, so that while walking along its quiet long corridors, looking at lovingly restored cells and beautiful chapel, you can almost tangibly feel the presence of the long gone monks. We have been there in September and the gardens behind the monastery have been filled with the scent of the ripe grapes. Please do not miss this place when in Portugal. Do not forget to ask for the audio guide! After the visit, treat yourself with a nice food in the restaurant of the hotel next door.

Spend time inside the monastery (rococo church...) beautifully restored, and then even more time in the garden. Two walks : the short one is 45 minutes, the long one is 1h30... If you can, sleep at the Hospedaria.

What a treat! I went out of season by bus from the centre of Braga. Made a special effort as it was closed on Monday when I wanted to go. The bus stop is just round the corner from the Ibis hotel and is a somewhat limited timetable but managed to squeeze in a good visit between buses although it took the best part of a whole morning it was worth it. Got the first bus out and got there as they were opening or perhaps they had seen me walking up the long green area in front the bus stop. I had the place to myself and it was exquisite and surprisingly large. I did get good vibes from the old corridors, the courtyards, the cloisters, the church and the little rooms but best of all was the garden where it was just so easy to imagine the monks working outside planting and hoeing. I was entranced at how close it must have been to what it used to be and dawdled there transfixed imagining the monastic activity. There was an unfortunate fire that burnt down the dining area/rectory which must have been tragic however they have made it into a new modern area for students and visitors to attend lectures and hold events. There was a video looping in a room which was a bit educational (in portuguese) but I suspect was made more for the funders of the renovations. The kitchen is worth a look eventhough it was altered in 18thC? it still exuded an aura of times past. There is a hotel here it seemed nice but I didn't stay there. The audio guide was helpful and informative and free (refundable deposit). This a jewel of a building and helped me transport myself to mediaval times especially the small garden areas but I imagined I could hear the cartwheels in the courtyard and see the monks moving ghostly, serenely and silently around this large and suprsingly enchanting building. Get there if you can you are not likely to regret it.

This was one of the highlights of my trip. The monastery is beautifully presented and restored. The major part is really simple, quite beautiful and austere and the other part, the church is just out of this world. If you love churches, cupids, sculpture, vaulted ceilings.... then do not miss this. It is STUNNING!

I visit often the gardens and the park of Mosteiro de Tibães with my family. The área is very calm, and invites you for some meditation and to breath some fresh air through the path ways.
A great place not far from the city but where you can feel the country side and explore the forest with kids or just by yourself.

One of the jewels of Braga. Of you want to know how the monks lived and how was the life in closure and a humble lifestyle you should definitely see this. It's very old and also full of history. And you have lots of places with animals and nature. Great to relax

Old Benedictine monastery that has now been restored. I advise a visit with time as the gardens are huge and very beautiful. One of my favorite parts was the virtues stairway, a set of stairways with fountains representing the seven virtues.

Obrigada
