About
Quinta Santa Eufemia was founded in 1864 by Bernardo Rodrigues Carvalho, and now is managed by the fourth generation of the Family who have been producing vey fine old Douro Port wines, keeping the alge-old-skills of winemaking and ageing. Situated on the left side of the river Douro, with over 50 hectares under vines, produces grapes of the richest varieties, trodden in the traditional way and fermented on granite vats (lagares) in order to extract their finest essences. The wine is aged in oak casks before being selectively blended to satisfy the most refined palates. We have a shop where we sell our products. We make tastings and visits. Please make always a reservation to be sure that we are open

- Up the steep hill to good wine! This was a last minute booking but they were able to accommodate us well. They were very busy as it was harvest but we got an informative tour. The tasting was very good with both dry whites and reds and different ports. The 10 year old white port was excellent. All in all a good time. The hill up to the winery is very steepVisited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 September 2023
- Mr Ian MFleet, United KingdomGreat visitJoao was an excellent guide to the winery which has a rich heritage. It’s lovely to see the family that own it working in the business and all the staff showing a passion for the wine they produce. We now know a lot more about port wine and, if you go, be sure to try the 2017 ruby.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 October 2023
- Great wines, friendly and knowledgeable staff and great views!Amazing Quinta in the Duoro valley with really good wines and spectacular views. The winemaker is the great granddaughter of the founders, 4th generation, and really quality both on the wines and ports. Lisa, our tasting guide, was very knowledgeable, friendly and got to know us. We're looking forward to returning!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023
- A very worthwhile winery to visitWe enjoyed a very thorough and engaging tour of the winery. The guide Joao was very friendly and explained everything clearly. There was a lot of interesting historical artefacts to see as well. The setting is very pretty and has amazing views. We very much enjoyed our Douro wines and Port tatsing as well. Highly recommended.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023
- Wonderful small family vineyardI really wanted to visit the Douro Valley during our first visit to Portugal. We were staying about 2 hours north so we only had time to visit one winery and my husband found this one. The drive was so scenic and the tour with one other family was perfect - informative, interesting, and not overly long - which was great since we had our 9 year old with us. We tasted some regular and fortified wines and learned a lot about the differences between them. I honestly didn’t think I’d like the port wines but I ended up liking them better than the unfortified wines. The staff were very friendly and the views were stunning. We highly recommend a visit to this winery! On a side note, the road to/from the winery is fairly narrow and steep and there isn't a lot of parking, but it all worked out for us. I assume the limited space is part of the rationale behind making reservations for tours.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 December 2023
- Winery tour at Quinta Santa EufemiaThis out of the way vineyard was a gem hidden in the hills just outside of Pesa de Régua. The sites on the drive to the vineyard were beautiful. The dichotomy of modern and traditional winemaking technologies was one of the highlights. Our guide, Ruben, was very knowledgeable and fluent in English. Our priority of enjoying multiple varieties of port wines was low, but after sampling the rose, white, tawny and ruby varieties we came away as “fans” of these lovely wines. And the red and white wines were excellent as well. A great day.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 April 2024
- John ESalisbury, United KingdomWell worth a visit to this traditional QuintaWe highly recommend a visit to this family owned Quinta set high up on the hills above the Douro River, easily reached by taxi from the Pinhau railway station. We were treated to a very personal and friendly tour of this traditional wine and port producer, with an excellent explantion of the processes involved. The views from the terrace and tasting room are spectacular. The visit culminated with an opportunity to taste some very fine wines and ports. We could not leave without purchasing some products. Our grateful thanks to you all. John & Wendy.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 May 2024
- JumboJetJohnnyMelbourne, AustraliaFabulous Wine, Food & ViewsMy wife and I enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting at the delightful Quinta de Santa Eufemia. We had spent the day exploring the Douro valley and happened upon this Quinta, so we arrived with no appointment. We received a friendly welcome and the hospitality and knowledge of the cellar door staff was fabulous. Our wines were accompanied by a delicious charcuterie board and sweeping views of the valley. A very memorable afternoon - highly recommend.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 July 2024
- Jeffrey NMill Creek, WashingtonPerfect Atmosphere and LunchSuch a great quinta! We got a guided tour of the winery, family chapel, and vineyards, capped off by the best Portuguese lunch you could ever imagine. The family owners and employees were so very friendly and eager to please. They were also very funny, and our English speaking group spent a lot of time laughing at their great jokes. Very, very highly recommended.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 31 July 2024
- Amazing Family WineryWe visited Quinta de Santa Eufemia through a tour company, and really lucked out! It was so wonderful to meet new people on the tour, and at the vineyard. The small group tour was amazing and our guide, Rubin, was so knowledgeable and made the experience so charming and memorable. We are starting a "Portugal nice" movement!Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 September 2024

Beautiful smaller and more intimate winery we luckily found on maps. Great hospitality, views, and wine. Elisa was great! She guided us through the wines and shared her personal favorites. This experience is much more unique than some of the bigger Quinta tastings we did, so we highly recommend! Their reds are good and the port/rose really tasty.

Where to start. What a warm, welcoming, generational, business. The type of place that makes you feel like you are part of the family. They spare no details from start to finish and take time and care explaining the history of the vineyard and current operations.
Options for every budget. The port was delicious. Almonds were out of this world, nothing like anything i have ever tasted before. And the olive oil and light food pairings accentuated the characteristics of the port and the experience. I learned so much and the setting and journey to the winery were both beautiful. Even in early April!
Worth the trip and then some!

First the journey to get here, high up above the Douro River amongst the vineyards. Exhilarating!
We had a tour around the place, looking at the vineyards, the views, the grape crushing ( lucky enough to be here at the right time), and finally the tasting.
There were 5 or 6 ports to taste, ranging in colour from ‘white’ to dark ruby red. They were all delicious, and many for sale. Prices were very reasonable, and our purchase was wrapped in bubble wrap for the flight home. It’s a shame we can’t purchase online for Australia.

We went here because we got a free tasting coupon by riding the Gondola. It was not worth it. Worst port we had in Portugal. The whole place was very gimmicky. They also offered a free scarf if you bought a tasting (scarves looked very cheap). Staff was disinterested. The place itself had a musty smell that was off putting.
If you are looking for places to try port wine, do not go here.

My wife and I visited Quinta de Santa Eufemia for a tour and tasting in Feb 2023. We were looking to add a smaller, family run vineyard to our visit to Douro, and this turned out to be a great choice. Teresa is a member of the family and was a wonderful host, and it was interesting to learn about the long history of this vineyard. The views from their observation deck are amazing, and the wines and ports were tried were great as well. In particular it was fun to see a smaller operation as compared to some of the more corporate quintas we visited. Highly recommended!

Very beautiful scenery the staff there were very nice and welcoming. I went earlier to a “well established” Quinta nearby where I was not greeted and seemed unwelcome! This one in stark contrast, the tour the wine tasting felt really good, the staff are enthusiastic and courteous, and we spent a lot longer time than expected and bought different kinds of ports and olive oil. We must also thank Lisa who was so nice, keen and helpful in explaining different types of wines and answering our queries. Great experience in this Quinta, and this in the one I would recommend if you are around the area.

Regina Oliveira.

A nice view to Douro River. Where today is Quinta Santa Eufemia, in the 2nd century was a Roman farm, where they produced wine and cereals.
In the farm there is a small museum where vestiges of the presence of the Romans are exposed.
Quinta produces Port Wine, Douro wines (red and white) produced in a sustainable production regime and Olive oil (organic)
