The St. Francis Church in PORTO

Amazingly beautiful barroc work, ... do not miss the visit to the tombs under the church, a bit spooky but a "must" .

This is one of the few churches where you have to pay for entrance, but you are also allowed to a small museum. Woodwork all over the church is fascinating. they say some 200 kg of gold was used to cover the carvings (and obviously to fake as it was all made of gold) but now you can see how... More

Surely one of the most magnificent examples of Baroque decoration anywhere in the world, hovering between the sublime and the ridiculous (but really sublime). Be sure to look for the remaining traces of the original Gothic painting on the arch as you enter and in the chapel on the front right side. This is a MUST SEE for anyone with... More

Woodcarving I have never seen before! It isn't a church anymore, but that doesn't mean you can't sit down and take your time to reflect . . .nearly necessary in apace like that

As far as cathedrals and churches go (and I have seen many), this one is one of its kind. Impressive and massive wooden panels and statues cover the inside walls, witness of a time when Porto was a wealthy town.

Nothing spectacular from the outside, you mat actually pass it by without a second glance, there are plenty of more attractive churches in Porto. But the inside is an altogether different story/ It is simply sumptuous. The whole church is covered with unbelievably complex and beautiful wood carving. If visiting Porto, and you should, don't miss this church/

Church has entry fee but it is worth of it. Inside are oakwood and golden carvings. These are really superb.
