Given the size of the outside I was surprised that the church was small. It is very nice and not as ornate as all the other churches we saw. Pleasant and tasteful but without the WOW factor you get with other churches. It is free so it you are going up into the tower have a quick look

As with most churches in Europe, this one is lavish in its artwork. The altar areas are especially impressive while much of the rest of the church is pretty much unadorned. The exterior is especially impressive with its extensive use of tile rather than statuary usually found in other European churches.

I visited this beautiful church and admired the famous altarpiece. The Clérigos Church ("Church of the Clergymen") is a Baroque church in the city of Porto, in Portugal. The church was built for the Brotherhood of the Clérigos (Clergy) by Nicolau Nasoni, an Italian architect and painter who left an extense work in the north of Portugal during the 18th... More

The church, with its overly tall tower, is a Porto landmark. It dominates the surrounding neighbourhood and can be seen from many points in the historical city centre. We did not attempt the climb to the top of the tower, which costs 2 Euros. The church interior is sumptuously Baroque. A previous post noted a bad experience with pickpockets. Beware... More

Hi there, I have given this beautiful church one star to draw attention to the fact that my friend and I both had our purses taken from our rucksacks while we were in there. So, please take extra care while appreciating the wonderful architecture!

Not huge but slim yet adorable architecture inside and the facade. It was renovated sometime ago and that was already in its beauty again. It has a Baroque interior some gilded in gold specially the sculptures. We stayed inside the church. Did not climb up because of the long line.

A beautiful church with interesting exhibits. Do not miss the climb to the top of the bell tower for a great bird's eye view of Porto.

Going into the Clerigos church, you'll find the ticket office and entry to the tower on your right. BUT, if you can't face all those steps, the long line, and the entry fee, ignore the line and turn left, following a narrow corridor into the church. It's not especially spectacular, but we entered at the time when an organ recital... More

We were in Porto in last November and impressed on the first day seeing the beautiful tall tower from our room. That was Clérigos church tower. The church was adjacent to it. The entry to the church was free, although there was an entry fee for the tower(3 euro). It was designed by the Italian architect Nasoni. The interior of the... More
