Arguably this provides the best view of the river valley , a lovely park and "free" . Unfortunately the actual Palacio was being refurbished do we were unable to enter the building , but we were content to explore the expanse of the park. Hint...More

Pleasant grassy and shaded areas for waking around the main arena building itself. Tall trees provide tranquil areas.

The UFO building is currently under renovation and the gardens are rather ramshackled. The views of the river make it worth visiting. Just don’t make our mistake of thinking you can walk down to the river - you get half way down only to discover...More

The palace building is closed for renovation but there is a cafe and an outside book fair when we visited. Unbeatable views of the Douro, bridges and the water front.

This park is an oasis after a day spent in the hustle and bustle of the historic downtown. Lawns for relaxing on, peacocks with their chicks meandering about and stunning views of the river framed by the trees. Very relaxing. Early evening is a great...More

Building itself is still under renovations but is interesting and really jumps out at you. The gardens are very pretty and must be stunning when in full bloom. July/August probably not best time to visit with the heat.

Don't expect too much of the gardens themselves, I was quite underwhelmed. They do however offer nice shade away from the summer heat and amazing views of the river/Gaia. There's lots of nice quiet spots, different levels and peacocks.
