Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a mix of some beautiful art and a boatload of information about the institution. There are entire sections dedicated to biographies of the individuals involved and then other sections that housed collections of paintings and sculptures. We spent an hour here because we flew threw the biography portion, but this also included us visiting the little church next door.

At the end of our walking tour of Porto, we had some free time and I thought that the Igreja da Misericorda (church next to the museum) looked interesting. The only way to see the church is to go through the museum.

I really do not recommend this museum. You will see the history of the hospitals and care facilities of the city, and some mediocre portraits of the doctors and benefactors. It's all forgettable. Your entrance fee allows you to see the interior of the church from the choir. We had to ask for someone to let us in. The whole experience is not worth the time. Go do something else.

You will find the “Misericórdia Museum of Porto” in the historic center of Porto, and this in the “Rua das Flores”, in a building who was used as “the institution's headquarters” and this from the mid-16th century until the year 2013. By visiting the museum you will discover the history of the “Santa Casa da Misericórdia”, its institutional purposes and its art collections.
The museum opened in July 15 of the year 2015. And on the 3th of June in the year 2016, he was distinguished with the Portuguese Museum Award of the year 2016, given by the Associação Portuguesa de Museologia.
The visit of the museum goes as follows, you have to go first up-stairs and then you are coming down again by passing several rooms with different expositions. Worth a visit, even that the entrée fee is not that cheap.

The Museum is located almost in the center of the historical part of Porto, and is considered as one of the best Museums of Portugal with religious art, it has become more or less a modern building, the art is very well intact, and the visit starts on the highest level, and then you go from top to bottom, and are coming so through various halls, there is an elevator so everything is very easily accessible, from the upper rooms you have a wonderful view over the city of Porto. But that's not all, inside there is a beautiful covered patio made of steel, and through this patio you are able to enter the upper part of the adjacent church, beautiful view of the pulpit, many tiles adorn the walls. A beautiful complex and very worthwhile a visit.

In addition to its excellent location, the museum has stunning exhibits, a bar, and a view of Porto. If you are tempted by the idea to admire the paintings of the 16th-19th centuries, drink a cocktail, and admire the city, then this place is definitely for you. I believe that the MMIPO Museum can be defined as a must-have of a traveler in Porto.

Despite the actual story told here is somewhat boring and introspective the building and the way the exhibition has been arranged makes a pleasant sight even for those of us with limited appreciation for religious objects and paintings

the museum and its next door Church of Mercy stand as a tribute to the generosity over the centuries of the wealthy merchants of Porto toward the mentally ill and physically disabled poor of the city. Religious icons and portraits of the major benefactors of the Misericordia health care facilities fill the museum, while the facilities of the small church next to the museum reflect the baroque artistry of many of the Roman Catholic houses of worship concentrated within the old city.

We just missed a Picasso exhibit by a couple of days but decided to see this museum anyway. Glad we did - both architecture and organ made it worth it. We got to walk right up to the beautiful Iberian organ in the loft above the chapel - and marveled at the horizontal pipes.
