Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This beach has a bar, toilets (access walkway), showers, surf schools - where you can rent your equipment and take lessons... the bar is at the end of the walkway, close to the beach. I recommend the morning period where there is generally no wind. However, it depends on what the weather is like. On this beach you can often see surfing and kitesurfing, among other sports.

Windy and windy beach, ideal for practicing some water sports. Area "clean" and with plenty of space for children to enjoy. Direct access to the beach (until 20h) for those in the campsite. Access passages in acceptable state of conservation.

Very beautiful beach for those who love wide open spaces and activities requiring a lot of wind. The water is still cool for those who are not used to it. The sand is very fine and soft so you get it everywhere. I recommend looking at the wind speed before going there. We like it or not, I find it magnificent.

Very nice beach, well served pedestrian access, nearby bar, with affordable prices, relatively clean bathroom. Parking is not always available.
The beach is small but welcoming and well protected from the wind.

Lovely beach, really quiet (just some surfers and the odd sunbathers), we visited in May 2017. The weather was a little windy.
Really easy to get to from Viana do Castelo: head down to the water, by Foz restaurant, near the monument is a small jetty (seemed to be the only one). The schedule is near enough hourly (photo attached). Fare is €1.50 each way and it's a 5 min boat ride.

Should I share it with the world? I love this place, the dunes, the pine trees, the calm splashing sound of the waves. Also a nice place for surfers and bodyborders, thereßs a school nearby. On the winter time one can just sit in the vianalocals cafe and enjoy a dring, a meal and stare outside at the pines and the ocean. I will come back again and again.

We visited here the otherr day and were suprised how picturesque it looked. We walked around the town to begin with as there are a few monuments such as churches, statues etc to see. We then walked along the promenade which can be rather windy as the winds blow in fron the Atlantic. The promenade is very long but has lovely views over the sea and restaurants and cafes that run alongside. There is also an outdoor swimming pool that proved to be very popular. A nice place to visit without teh crowds!

We walked from Viana to Cabedelo beach, and back to Viana It was a Saturday, no bus. It was March, so no ferry to Viana until after Easter onwards, although the leaflet in the hotel doesn't mention this. If you enjoy walking as we do it is worth doing if the weather is good

I usually travel to beaches either for surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing so I prefer beaches with that kinda of profile. When I heard about this beach, I expected a regular and nothing special city beach, but I was actually pretty stunned by its beauty, high dunes and how spacious it was. Actually, I will never again call this a city beach as it posed more as a beautiful spot you would find in the middle of nowhere.
The waves break differently depending on where on the beach you are, which means you will find it suitable no matter if you surf or just want to take a dip in the water. The largest waves are usually to the south (great point break in the middle actually), while the north part of the beach is a bit less messy when it comes to the waves since it is protected by the harbour.
Since the beach is so long, scenic and exposed it will almost always be a bit wind here, but there is possible to find shelter in the grass between the dunes. Even so, the gentle wind is not a place to go here with kids because they will love it! The water is pretty shallow and the space inside the last wave breaking is well protected when the tide is middle to low so it is not so dangerous to leave the kids playing in the water.
If do surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing - you will LOVE this beach and there is even a surf store north in the beach (vianalocals) that can provide you with rentals.
After a well spent day in the beach, you can hang out in Viana do Castelo's beachfront or the historic centre which is just 5 minutes drive from the beach. I didn't stay in the campings here, but Orbitur has a camp situated right on the beach which I definitly will check out when I come back next year.
This beach proved to be one of the best beaches I have visited (taking all the things in the area in consideration). Sure, Ilha Grande's Lopez Mendes is prettier, but for it's location, diversity, beauty, infrastructure and zen feeling this is just a amazing beach that you can take anyone to and they will most likely love it! :)
You have several parking options, but if the public parkings are not available I would suggest keeping a low profile, be nice to the locals and they most likely won't mind you parking in the streets near their beach houses. In October it was never a problem finding a parking spot right in front of the beach.
