Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The aqueduct in Vila do Conde is just beautiful to see - so happy that it still is standing and the people of Portugal value their history!

I am working my way to seeing all of Portugal's many aqueducts. Loved seeing this one and will return to see the courtyard of the convento once it reopens where the water ended up. So many arches! What a structure.

Wow this is amazing, a seemingly endless aquaduct, leading to the Santa Clara convent... apparently there are 990 arches, and it goes on for a full 5 kilometers!!

The first sighting of the aqueduct from the train is exciting. It is so long, towering and provides an interesting backdrop to the cemetery and the city. We walked along the aqueduct to the convent and it's just an amazing piece of history.

On the outside of the village we can see in parts the “Santa Clara Aqueduct” who was designed to transport water to the convent with the same name. Since its foundation, and despite its location next to the Ave river, the Santa Clara Monastery has always had problems with drinking water supply. Until the end of the construction, the water supply was made through a daughter-in-law, possebly prior to the construction of the Monastery, founded in the year 1318.

We just drove by and saw the Aquaduct. So we decided to drive alongside it, to see how long it is. It is long. It runs through a part of the city, which is special.

We found out this was not started until the late 1700's by the convent in Vila Do Conde, and it just runs and runs, some sections have collapsed but what remains is very much worth a look

They made a mistake on the angle so the aquaduct stood unused for many years. Eventually they got it working and the nuns got their water. well worth a visit

It was a nice surprise to happen across the fine extent of arches, part of the historical aqueduct. Being the second largest system in the country it has nearly 1000 arches stretching over 4 kilometres.

We had best views of it close to the monastery where is terminates and after which it earned its name.

Well worth seeing for it fine architecture.
