Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.

After covering the main sites in Athens we though we would explore this park and go up the hill for the views. It was definitely worth it. It’s a pleasant 15 minute or so gentle hike (with easy paths and steps and plenty of shade from the trees). At the top you are rewarded with amazing 360 degree views both of the acropolis and out to sea. One of the best free activities in Athens

Seeing this monument was well worth the short hike to the top of the hill. Not only do you see the monument itself, but you also get stunning views of the Acropolis, probably some of the best in Athens. The hike itself was a lot shorter and less of an incline than I expected and it is completely free to visit.

I've been to the Acropolis twice, but it was the first time I went to this mountain. It is easily accessible, has a few, not too many stairs and a wonderful view of the Acropolis, Athens and sunset. Don't miss it, it's fantastic. And there are seats to rest on the way. Careful not to slip with on the marble floor

Discovered this by accident . Wanted best view of Acropolis at night and went to Hill of Muses by serendipitious mistake. You get a great view of Acropolis particularly as the sun set from the area of the Hill of Muses that overlooks the Acropolis and a great view over much of Athens from the area on the hill where the Philopappos monument is.
Would recommend dawn or dusk but as at night the paths are not well lit take some form of light so you can see your way down . Dont confuse Hill of Muses with a hill of a similar name Philopappos Hill as they give quite different views.

The views are breathtaking, but be prepared for a considerable amount of walking. Additionally, the location is in close proximity to the historic Prison of Socrates.

The monument, dating to the 2nd century AD, has been quite damaged over the centuries, but the most impressive thing about it is its location at the top of Philopappou Hill, which offers amazing views of Athens and the Acropolis, especially in the late afternoon. The hill is crisscrossed by walking paths and is a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Athens.

Outstanding views with lots of historical sites dotted about, this is well worth the visit. Despite being quite high up, the walk to actually get to the moment isn’t too bad and was quite quick !

We came up to watch the sunset at the suggestion of a local guide. We had been to Mt. Lycabettus the night before and this was a welcome haven to the crowds of people we encountered there. The view was amazing, views of both the acropolis and the sea. Highly recommend coming at sunset. It’s a bit of a hike up but well worth it.

It is a bit of a steep climb up hill.
The monument itself is heavily detoriated and there is hardly anything left from the fortress walls from 4th century BC.
Still it is worth the effort, the monument is still a beautifull piece of art. And the view over the city and the acropolis in particular is breathtaking.
Take the path down hill to go to the Pnyx and notice on the left, at certain point you see the remains of the ancient fortress wall of the city.

This monument was in my guide book, and it does not look anything special, although I suppose if you are into the history and culture it would be good to see. Free to access the park and you can get close to the mounment.
I only came up here for the nearby geocaches. WOW I am soo glad that I did.
The views from here to the Acropolis are AMAZING.
This would make a great picnic spot. There is a cafe further down the hill in the park.
