Spotless, slick and cheap transport

Couldn't believe how clean it is, the actual station and the trains. Very modern, super cheap. We took the metro from the Acropolis to the Metrol mall and it cost only 1.20 Euro... read more

I travelled on the Athens-Piraeus Electric Railway from Monistiraki and Omonia on six occasions on recent visits to Athens. Its quick, reliable and easy to use to get around Athens.

I caught the ISAP from Omonia to Piraeus and back when staying in Athens and catching a ferry from Piraeus. Fast efficient and cheap service. Look out for pickpockets though, as they do operate. Exercise caution and you will be fine.

Piraeus metro station is quite charming but at the head end of the platform is this lovely little museum celebrating the development of the Athens underground system. It is very well presented and includes a complete 19th century wooden carriage. And it is free with a useful illustrated leaflet.

This small museum run by the works of the railway about the railway is a little gem. Just at the end of the station in Piraeus. This collection has been lovingly put together by the works having collected items from all over the city. As my wife is from the city the railway was of great interest and brought back... More

This piece of tourist -friendly transportation is a god-send for the independent traveller. Having arrived at Athens Eleutheros Venezelos airport, just out side of Arrivals is this life saver, great ticket hall , with ultra helpful , multilingual staff, who even decided that I was entitled to a pensioner discount, magic, when I used it last year, 2013, it ran from... We took this option from the airport as I thought being the quickest it would be easier to try on the 1st day. We were sent everywhere and it took nearly 2 hours and we transferred to the metro. We used the Metro to get back to the airport and it took about an hour from Pireaus port Metro. The... More

If you intend to use Athens-Piraeus electric railway, do not miss to visit a small museum (established in 2005) located in the Piraeus station (exit area). I discovered it by chance on May 1st, 2013. What a surprise! It offers a nostalgic collection of everything associated with the construction and development of the first city railway in Athens. Although made... More

Sometimes we are so myopic. I thought people are so rude here trying to enter before everyone has the time to exit the train. But after riding metros in other major cities I realise it's not that bad. This is a beautiful metro station in a bustling area if the port. In the winter I love it. In the summer... More
